Hi everyone! This is my first post, although I am on the site daily. Lily has been dealing with a stomach bug. She had vomited and could not hold down food or water all day so we took her to our emergency vet. We had xrays done to rule out a foreign object. She was feeling much better today, although she is still a little lethargic. I took her outside to go potty, (we live on the first floor of an apartment), and out of nowhere a 75lb roll of carpet came flying from the third floor window and landed on my poor Lily. I reported the incident and called our vet for signs I should be aware of in case of concussion. I don't think she was injured, she is walking/running around just fine. But now she is terrified to go outside. I'm sure when all of her doggy playmates come out for a nightly romp she will perk up. I just had to share her misfortune, hopefully she will not be afraid of the accident site for too long! Thanks for listening!

Geeze.. that is bad luck.. or good luck that she is okay but geese.. poor baby.. poor you!

YIKES!  You are lucky it did't kill her or YOU!!  Glad to hear she is on the mend and doing well but I think I'd be having the apartment supervisor getting in tough with the upstairs neighbors!

What a horrible incident.  Thankfully both you and Lily are alive and ok.  I'd say that was very good luck!  If it was me, I'd be beside myself and I'd not only report it to the apartment management but I'd file a police complaint as well.  What kind of a moron lets a 75 lb. roll of carpet fall, or worse yet throws it, out a 3rd floor window? My first heart dog --a small mixed breed that looked like a mini border collie --was severely injured when someone accidentally dropped a jump pole on her as a pup.  She miraculously recovered from her head injuries but it took months of rehabilitation and she was almost always with me because of that.  Although she seemed to recover, complications from her head injuries meant she had to be euthanized before the age of 2.  She was the bravest, sweetest little girl. So I'm really glad to see your update and hear that Lily is acting normally.

Oh my goodness- what crazy neighbors would throw a roll of carpet from the window???  I would definitely report the incident and hope they dont di it again and hurt someone or another dog.  Hope Lily is back to her usual self soon.

Oh man, how frightening.  I'd be scared of going outside too!  Let us know how she does.

You have to wonder....what are people thinking?  Who doesn't look first?  I'm glad Lily is doing ok!

That is terrible luck! I hope she can recover with no bad after effects, mental or physical. Poor girl!

That is too scary.  And yes, you are so lucky that Lily wasn't severely injured or killed.  You too.  I'm thinking that if it is an apartment building (not condos), and carpet was being installed or replaced, it was being done by the management office.  So they may be responsible.  In any event, someone was totally ignorant.  So glad you are both ok.

The carpet installers were private contractors. Management has contacted the president of their company and also offered to pay for any vet fees that Lily may need from this accident. The day it happened I also talked to the guy that threw the carpet out of the window. He was mortified when he realized what he did, and agreed that he should carry used carpet down the stairs no matter how inconvient. Today Lily is completely back to her normal self. Full of energy and hardly afraid of the accident area. Although before she walks past the area where it happened she will look up for a couple seconds to check for more ridiculous flying objects. It is both smart and adorable. Thanks for all of your support!
Very smart! All good news : )
