So I took Ember (6 months) for a quick afternoon walk today. I've been super sick and we were pretty cooped up today, so I knew we both needed the fresh air and exercise. Anyway, we walked up to a very busy street that we've walked down a million, zillion times. Ember is not a huge fan of the traffic, but we keep at it and usually is fine. Today, though, she started pouncing and then laying down on the ground pawing at her head (ears?). It was so weird. She'd get up and pounce, lay down, paw at her head/ears again and repeat. All the way down this stretch of road. I tried putting the attention back on me, put her in a sit and then when I released her she did the same thing. We went home and she stopped acting like that as soon as we got off the busy street.
What do you think?
She went to the groomers on Weds and I am wondering if maybe it was a sound reaction from having her ear hair plucked? That's really the only idea I have.

I wonder if there was a high pitched sound that humans can't hear.
I had that same thought, that there may have been some sound, maybe an alarm going off, in the distance, too far for you to hear, but not too far for Ember. After all, they can hear dog whistles and we can't. Those ears are pretty powerful.
Check her ears carefully for any sign or redness, irritation, odor, gunk, etc., and if they look clean, dry and not irritated, I'd guess she was bothered by some sound.
My dad used to have these things on his car that supposedly made a whistle above our hearing range that would scare deer out of your way before you got near them.
It's possible that one of the cars passing by had one of those things (and they actually worked?)? Wonder if they still sell those.
My mom had one of those on her car too!
wow never heard of these, what a good idea
It could just be her way of showing you that she doesn't want to be on that busy street....that she's not happy with the traffic and the sounds. Murph does the same thing with sounds that he doesn't like...usually music.
He doesn't mind "background music", but he freaks out when I play the piano. He also can't handle singing...we had to give up singing "Happy Birthday" in our house because that puts him right over the edge. It's just one of the things we're working on with him. Yesterday we learned that he's afraid of wrapping paper...yes he ran when he saw the rolls of wrapping paper and wouldn't come back into the room until I put them away. He's a strange boy.
I play the flute and oboe, and certain notes make my dogs howl! It's pretty funny actually... So I try not to play long tones around them. My one dog sounds like a hound dog with certain pitches.
Okay, thank you for my morning chuckle! Murphy, you are a very special boy.
