Benni is getting boarded for the first time in her year of life this Thursday.  We'll be gone 6 nights.  We're using Roberta and Bailey's recommendation, Grandma's House.  (day care and boarding).  It seems to be a great facility and  Benni doesn't have separation anxiety but it's very possible I do!

Benni will be one spoiled dood when you get back...that is what Grandma's do!  Have fun Benni!!!

I think this is the hardest thing about having dogs. Finding someone to watch them when you have to go somewhere. Good luck and I hope when you pick up Benni she is tired and happy and you had a great vacation :)
Benni will be fine, she will have fun. She will miss you, but don't worry about her too much. We boarded ours for 4 days the first time and I was worried sick.

I think that this is really hard and important decision. I travel a little for work, and try to get away from home just because, at least once a year. I don't have family in town to leave the dogs with. My dogs have lots of home routines that I am not confident that a dog sitter could adequately do at home and would be really disruptive if not followed. I have been using the same boarding kennel for over 10 years. They are not a fancy spa, but my dogs (including dogs that have since passed away) seem to love going. They get excited in the parking lot - know the check-in drill, and usually don't even turn around to say good bye to me anymore (breaks my heart). Most importantly I feel confident that they are safe. They are fed a raw diet, they can't get out into the street, Bruno gets his meds. I know that they will go to my vet if they get sick. So I feel that I can enjoy my time away. I really encourage folks to do a lot of research and find a place - whether it's a family member, a boarding kennel, or a pet sitter that you really feel confident with because you should be able to leave home and enjoy your time away.

We left Alma for a month last summer so we could live in Austin.  My husband had a work opportunity there and my kids and I used the time to explore.  At first we thought about taking her with us but after much research (airplanes, apartment living, site seeing..) we decided to board her.  I think she had as much fun as we did.  I checked out a dozen kennels in our area, called and visited them, to decide where she should stay.  I also called often to see how she was doing.  Another kennel we use posts pictures daily to their web site.  We travel quite a bit so it was important that we find a good place for her to stay.  I love my dog but I don't want to feel like I'm tied to my house because of her.  Sounds like you have a good recommendation.  Please post an update when you get back.
I am sure he will do well. I have boarded a few pups for friends and they worry about them the whole time. Usually the dog has forgotten that his owners are gone before they have left the driveway--they really do live in the present. They are certainly excited to see the owners return, but in between, they do not show signs of missing them. How great that you have found a good facility. There isn't much to choose from around here, but my breeder has a nice set-up with a few kennels and runs and she will always take my guys if her schedule allows it. I take her doodle for her whenever she needs me to so it is a nice arrangement. The dogs are comfortable with either of us, so that is great.
awwww, I'm sure she'll have a great time, and will be just fine!!! It's a great socialization opportunity for her! Good luck!!
