Every now and then I read about others getting the impression that their doodles are bored because they are lying around, doing nothing, looking 'sad', or something akin to that.  To me a dog laying around, relaxing is a dog that is perfectly content.

Bored to me looks like Boca the second we sit down on the couch and if she were to instruct another dog to mimic her the instructions would look like this (substitute your brother/sister for "Rosco"):

1.  Poke Mom and Dad a few times asking for petting.

2.  When petting ceases poke them again, especially if laptops are on their laps.

3.  You will probably be told to 'back up' because they can't see their keyboard if your head is there.

4.  Pace back and forth through living room.

5.  Go ring the bell* to go out.

6.  Walk back to living room.

7.  Circle around Rosco whose being boring by lying on the floor at their feet.

8.  Ring bell again

9.  Return because bell is being ignored.

10.  Poke Mom and Dad

11.  Walk over Rosco a few times

12. Poke Rosco

13.  Keep poking Rosco (occasionally this will result in some wrestling so keep at it!).

14.  Ring bell

15.  Ring bell

16.  Pace back and forth from bell to living room a few times.

17.  Ring bell

18.  Stare at Mom and Dad and if possible, poke again.

19.  Ring bell.

THIS to me is the picture of boredom.  NOT Rosco who is laying there perfectly content to warm our toes. So to me when I see dogs/doodles laying around and chillaxin' I think 'Ahhhh, what happy content doggies!"  When I see Boca I feel bad because I'm DONE for the day and she's just caught her second wind...I also feel bad for me because her energy at that time drives me a bit bonkers...okay a lot bonkers.  Time to buy some new bones for her to chew on, I think!

*At this point in the night ringing the bell is 99% simply for the purpose of being outside, possibly digging, possibly finding her favorite ball and digging with it or if she's lucky getting a game of fetch.  Said activities are generally 95% of the reason she rings the bell through the day.

This doodle is a honey-bun! So glad he has someplace comfy to rest.
The older Peri gets, the more I find her in this position :)  I have said to DH many times "Peri is so bored....why???"  and he immediately says "she isn't bored, she is blissfully happy!"
Awwww.
Vern is not as bad as Boca, but he has far more energy at night than Fudge or any of the rest of us. Luckily, we have no bells to ring :) Poor Rosco...minding his own business and getting poked at night...LOL!
She always wins the poke game...in that eventually it gets him up and feisty and ready to wrestle!  Darn.  If only he'd get better at resisting!
Too funny!!!  From this description then I'd say my doods are never bored - lol.  They are either running full tilt or snoozed out.

Sunny does this exactly, but without the bell!

She has a toy basket, and that will get emptied one by one until I have a pile of toys directly beside me on the couch. It's like her thought process goes "Mom's bored. Let's see if she'll play with this toy! Hmm... she's not playing with this one... how about this one? Nope, how about this one? Nope, ok THIS ONE FOR SURE!"

Yeah, Michael--Trav does the same thing as Sunny.  Brings all the toys, one by one--like as soon as he finds the one I REALLY want to play with, it'll be game on!  :)
OMG!!! I thought I had the only DWA (Doodle With Attitude)!
Flip isn't too bad, really great at entertaining himself or just chillN - but Odin WILL NOT BE DENIED!!
He will do the stare down, pace around the room and also plop his big head on my lap and sigh! This can go on for hours until I give in, and grab the leash for either a walk or car ride.
(I'll admit it, I always give in)
Immmmm soooo glad I'm not the only DK member going through this misery! ;-) Lol
When I went to buy their food today I picked up a couple of bones....ahhhh they are already enjoying them immensely!  I'm hoping for a very occupied, STILL, albeit loud, Boca tonight while I relax on the couch =)
And I'm getting the look. Later, in a little while.... Here we go.
So true! Chloe does this at night too with the bell. If we take the bell away she will go to the door and bark. She went on an hour walk and came back as soon as DH sat down she barked again literally 5 minutes later! So I guess we have content doodles during the day and when dad comes home they are suddenly "bored"
