Brinkley ate a piece of pizza that had a garlic sauce on it. He sneaked it when my mom turned her back to get a salad out if the fridge. I kow in large portions garlic is toxic- is it true thst they have to consume more than .5 percent of their body weight?

Should I be worried?

I would not worry much but I would watch him.

I agree.

Here's an article about garlic toxicity in dogs and what symptoms to watch for. It can take a few days to show up:

Okay, thanks!  So far, so good.  I'm watching him closley and he's with my parents now so he won't be alone at all.

i shared that link of the thanksgiving day foods that can be dangerous to pets and a friend of mine on facebook commented that garlic is good for dogs and she feeds her dog garlic every day and it keeps fleas away.. i see here the flea thing is a myth... how can i share this with her and not seem like im correcting her or being a brat...

You can't. Just let it go. People are going to believe what they want to believe, especially on FB.

Good advice!

Perfect advise, as usual Karen. I was thinking the same thing as I read that.

I wouldn't give it a second thought.

So far, so good so I think we are in the clear.  He hasn't shown any signs of distress or sickness-- and I think he'd be showing something by now, as he's one sensitive pup!

I feed my dogs garlic every day to preven fleas. For about 25 yrs or so. Never had a problem. I don't think garlic sauce on a pizza is enough to anything. Except the fleas might not like it LOL! Puppy love from Inventing Joy & Furry Folk

Joy,  Puppy Love Lady.  Please stop.

garlic is extremely toxic to dogs and cats and the consumption of even a small amount can lead to severe poisoning and, if not treated in time, death.

Why is Garlic Toxic to Pets?

Garlic is classified as a species of the Allium family. Other species in the Allium family include onions, shallots, leeks, chives and rakkyo (otherwise known as the Chinese onion).

Unfortunately, dogs and cats cannot digest these particular plants as we can. The ingestion of Allium species in dogs and cats causes a condition called hemolytic anemia, which is characterized by the bursting of red blood cells circulating through your pet’s body.

Ingestion can also lead to gastroenteritis, also known as an inflammation of the stomach and intestines, causing stomach pain.
