Hey Guys,

Brinkley has green goop coming out of his left eye.  Is this something that will go away if I keep cleaning it or do I need to take him to the vet?

And what can cause this?  Note:  2 weeks ago my husband and Brinkley were playing catch.  He's just learning to catch the ball mid-air.  Well, one time when my husband threw the ball, Brinkley just stood there and it pegged smack in his left eye.  It was red for about 15 minutes and then it went back to normal and we haven't thought twice about it.  Do you think these could be related even though there were 2 weeks between ball incident and the goopy eye?

Also, I'm wondering if Brinkley has some kind of infection (AGAIN! We just got him better) but he had diarrhea all yesterday.  Nothing this morning yet.

Thanks for your help!

Heather

The green goop does sound like infection.  If it was me I would take him to the Vet.
Sounds like Brinkley has conjunctivitis and needs drops from the vet.
Green means infection. You should take him to the vet. They'll probably give you some antibiotic pills and an ointment or drops to put in his eyes.
Probably Conjunctivitis!  I'd suggest a vet visit.... Shelby had this about 6 months ago!

Hey Guys,  Sorry I haven't gotten back to you.  We've been so busy-- I haven't had a second to get on the computer.  The vet couldn't fit Brinkley in yesterday; however, the green goop stopped coming out of his eye around noon yesterday.  It's still a little red but not much.  I've been flushing his eye with doggy eye drops a couple times a day.

Also, no more diarrhea.  We are keeping an eye on him.  We'll see if he needs to go tomorrow when the vet opens back up. :)  Thanks everyone!

He still may need an antibiotic eye drop....Also the ball could very well have scratched his cornea and that is very painful.....Either way...Conjunctivitis does not resolve on it's own and a scratched cornea requires veterinary care.....Please do take him to the vet anyway Heather...
Yes, we plan on taking him. When I said we are keeping an eye on him, I was really meaning we'd keep an eye on him to make sure ER care wasn't needed in the meantime.  Honestly, this weekend has been so busy, I'm getting all my days mixed up. Anyhow, Friday I put him on Monday's vet waiting list.  I'm just waiting for a phone call-- they said they'll get him in tomorrow, I just don't know when.
Oh good!...I'm so relieved!..I thought so but just wanted to make sure you had all of the info...Thanks for updating Heather..: )
I would at least call your vet and explain what you observed and see what they say.  Although I would think anything green = infection.

Update on Brinkley:  False alarm.  We took Brinkley to the vet this morning (well, my husband did) and the vet said if he had something over the weekend, it disappeared by today.  His eye didn't have anything green in it this morning nor was it red, but we took him just in case.  Oh well-- better safe than sorry!  Also, his cornea is fine (thank goodness!!)

Thanks for all the tips!
