I am looking for an easy to use harness for walking my Yogi. The ring on the back would be great rather than one that attaches to the leash under the neck? My dog doesn't really pull much I just don't want pressure on his neck. Any suggestions would be great.
We use the Gentle Leader Easy Walk harness however the ring is on the chest instead of back but it's very easy to put on. We've use one on Max since he was a puppy.
We use the Gentle Leader on Rosey too, you can actually hook it just as easily in the back. My only complaint about this is that Rosey has chewed thru one, and the other day while putting on Bandit's gear she took 2 chews, I am not sure if she was just itching but she got half way thru another strap. I wish they were made of stronger material like the lupine...
According to the Gentle Leader website, they'll replace the chewed harness for only $7.95. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning to with the one Cocoa chewed up. Here's the blurb from the website FAQ:
What happens if my dogs chews on his harness?
We guarantee the materials and workmanship of the Gentle Leader Easy Walk Harness, but we can’t keep your dog from chewing it! Please be sure to supervise your dog while he wears the Easy Walk Harness and store it safely when not in use. If your dog does chew the Easy Walk, we will happily replace it for a $7.95 fee (includes shipping). Call 888-640-8840 for details.
Thanks Leslie.
I have a harness for Starlit that I love and recently broke. It is a tween size that we made an ugly repair to but it is just not the same. I'll read more into it with the link you provided.
P.S.one you practice with the GL harness it is easy to put on and can do it in seconds. We actually left Starlit in her harness during the day. She had no irritations that regular harnesses can cause because it does not fit tight under the arms.
Although Starlit is large she does not pull. We used it because she could easily slip out of her collar when she spooked.
We also use the gentle leader but as mentioned it does clip to the leash at the chest. Also Finn is a large labradoodle at 65 lbs so while I find it super easy and he is really comfortable I think Yogi is a small dog and not as tall so maybe it wouldn't work for you.. Best of luck- he is a cutie!
Gentle Leader here too. Had a small one for when he was a puppy and now have had the large one on him for over a year. Easy to snap on, clips in the front though and I like it because he feels any slightest correction with a jerk to the side. Not sure if it clipped to the back if it would be awkward for him if I corrected sideways. Also, clipped to the chest makes it harder for him to walk in front of me which is a big NO-NO in Murphy's world. getting a second doodle and she will be using Murphy's puppy Gentle Leader from day one.
oohhh good mention about the size, Bandit is small too and hated the GL. We think it hurt his leg as when he walked it hung low and the metal leash clip hit his knee with every step...:(
Yogi is 21 pounds and it seems like some would be to small and others too large. I would really like the connection on his back. I have one that I bought at a discount store. It is very heavy and slides around. I thought someone mentioned a harness that was leather and looked like a figure 8 and had a closure on the top. Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try to see what they look like online.
I am using the Lupine, step in harness for Seda because she doesn't pull. It joins on the back, between the shoulder blades and is easy to step in to. If the above link doesn't work, google Lupine harnesses. It's called the "crazy daisy". Actually, Seda's is the "peace pup". There are a bunch of styles for boys and girls.
My parents use the Sporn no pull harness. If you have a Tuesday Morning around you, they had them at our store for $5-$6 dollars. My parents tried the Gentle Leader, they've had more luck with this style for their recent adoption. She doesn't freak out when this one goes on.
They also have them on Amazon. This is one of many listings :)
I've used the Sporn and the Gentle Leader. I liked them both. I prefer concept of the Gentle Leader but the Sporn had fleece lined straps which would lesson the irritation under the dogs armpits. The Gentle Leader though, doesn't even fit under the armpits so that is why I switched. Both though, worth the cost.
