Charli just came in from our yard. she was out there for 5 minutes and she came in with her head smelling like skunk! Not sure she met with a skunk or rolled in it. TG it is only the top of her head and Samantha & Mickey weren't outside with her!! Any suggestions besides a trip to the groomer to get rid of the smell?

I did search but couldn't find skunk smell removal' from all the DRC Voting that had a skunk! WOL!!

Thank you!!!!

Well, now I have 3 doodle heads that smell like skunk! I found where they got it - a shrub inside my fenced in yard. Each one was just smelling the shrub, obviously touched their head on the shrub.

The 'special cocktail' seems to have really lessened the skunk stench but I think we will do another dose later just to be on the safe side.  Off to buy more for the other 2 doodles - ugh!!

tomato juice bath. It may take more than one.

There is also a skunk smell remover from Nature's Miracle. But their company has changed hands and I am not sure if that product is still the same.

From trial and error I found it best not to bath the dog completely it just spreads the oil.  I have tried the following mixture with pretty good results.

Mix a 32-ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide with a quarter cup of baking soda and two teaspoons of liquid dish detergent.  Wet the area, apply mixture let set for 5-10 minutes, then rinse well and repeat, if needed.  Make sure not to get in eyes, ears and mouth.  Put cotton in the ears and cover eyes if you need to was the nose.  I have dipped a cotton ball and bloated on the nose and above the eyes.  Do not put the mixture in any type of container to store, since it tends to bubble pressure will build up.

Good Luck.

Yes, my neighbor who now has the stuff I recommended a few minutes ago also has used the peroxide, baking soda and Dawn dish soap mixture and it has done a pretty good job!
No further advice, but I'm so sorry! LOL

TY for your suggestions!!  I called my groomer and asked what they would do. I was surprised at her answer but when I think about, it makes perfect sense! She suggested I purchase Messengill Douche. Well, I used it on her and so far so good. I am going to wait for the final verdict since her head is still wet.

I can see your blog now....Charli Recommends Messengill Douche.....LOL. Hope it works.
LOL LOL  Can you imagine the looks at the store buying enough Messengill Douche for a couple of large doodles??  The cashier is going to be talking when you leave! LOL LOL

Let me know how it works.  Unfortunately we have to deal with skunks 2-3 times a year.  The peroxide mixture can be drying, so I'm always looking for another way to deal with it.  Having a 90 lb lab and 65 lb doodle maybe I should buy it by the case. LOL

Go ahead Laurie I know this one will be hard to resist. LOL

I guess Charli's having one of those days where she just doesn't feel "fresh."  Isn't that how the commercials used to go?
lol that is very funny!
HAHAHA...I'm glad it worked, but that is really funny.  Poor you - that must have smelled terrible!!
I guess if you have to find the bright side regarding a skunk, thank goodness it was only the head. I have no suggestions, but wish you a quick relief from the odor.
