I can't think of a color of doodle that I don't love when I look at all the beautiful doodles on DK! Of course, I have my favorite color --apricot--deep red to a golden honey-- but a good breeder, health, and a sweet temperament that matched my lifestyle was the most important checklist for me. Whatever color/coat type that little package came in, I figured would be perfect. Coats can change color over time, but good health & temperament --whatever that means for you --is a gift that keeps giving every day. Good luck and lucky you...adding a second doodle kid.

I agree :)) I specifically requested a darker color because I was afraid that a lighter color Doodle would require a lot of work--keeping him clean. However, when I saw the litter, I fell in love with all of them. I now want one in EVERY color--my DH says "keep dreaming".
I fell in love with the cream color, only because facial features are so pronounced with cream. In the darker colors the features seem to disappear, especially the eyes. I seem to have a thing about the eyes, with always wanting to see them, and keeping hair from obscuring them. Now, after having 2 cream colored doodles, I can see the attraction to the darker colors... only because they don't show dirt (its a lot of work keeping cream clean)!
Our first was a cream, but it didn"t matter what color he was. The second was a black, and the third was a rescue that we just fell in love with. If I could I'd have one of ALL the colors !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted a cream female for my first doodle. But the red male had the best temperament (per the breeder's testing) so I went with him since I had first choice in the litter. I like the doodle eye candy of having different colors when you have more than one, but I would say personality and temperament are first.
Color is what we see first, but it is the least important attribute. I wanted (and actually picked out) a red female. I had her name (Ruby) and I was all set, however, fate had other ideas. Ned charmed the socks off us and it really was my dh's turn to choose, so......Ned was it. I NEVER, NEVER wanted a cream doodle ( only for dirt reasons), yet our rescue is mostly cream, so....... perhaps next time the stars will align and I will get to choose color and sex.
Black noses become snow noses too!
I went to the breeder to pick up a cream color doodle we had reserved. The breeder asked if my kids would like to see the new puppies that were 2 weeks old. The kids fell in love with a tiny brown runt. They all decided to wait the 6 weeks to get the chocolate doodle. I love the brown and red doodles. I also love those lavender and parchment ones. I think watching the coat change color would be great.
I've always been a sucker for a dog with a pink nose. However, I was a more a sucker for a RED doodle. We have a black labradoodle who is actually more a dark, dark brown. I call it "special dark chocolate". :) Our second doodle is a goldendoodle who is cream. We ended up with a third doodle because I really wanted a red doodle in the mix.
In the end, it turns out we love them all no matter what the color. Our variety, however, does get a lot of attention.
