I know that doodles coats tend to change color and textures over time, I was wondering if any of your doodles have gone from a dark color to very light?? When we first picked our precious pup her color was a gorgeous red which I really LOVED me and my son both have red hair so I was really excited that her fur kind of matched our hair :) recently when I'm playing around with her and petting her I noticed that her coat is getting lighter, her roots almost look like a cream color and the Fur around her nose is also starting to lighten a bit. The dad is a really dark red but the mom is a cream. I LOVE her regardless but I definitely will be a little sad if her red coat goes away, is that possible?

I don't know much about doodles with red coats that change color over time, but I do know that your pup is adorable!

My Ozzy (now 7) was really red as a puppy, but over time her has turned pretty blondish. There are glimpse of his red, but mostly cream now.  My New pup is 6 months old, still super red, but time will tell....

Hi Michelle - your puppy is adorable! Yes, there have been DK members' doodles who lightened from red to apricot over time. Some have kept their red color however. I don't personally know what makes the difference between one who changes color and one who doesn't - but I do think it seems more common for them to fade a little bit. Hopefully you will hear from both groups. In the meantime, you can check out the group "From Pup to Adult" which members have added their doodle's transformation as they've grown - it's a really fun thing to look at!

Michelle,

I always have trouble photographing our fur kid Wynnie, as lighting plays a critical role. Wynnie has lightened up from a mahogany to a light caramel color. As the two images show her ears and tail have remained darker. Whatever the case, she is the sweetest girl and even if she turned a yucky purple, I wouldn't give her up. Just love your doodle...they are the best dogs ever. Your pup is adorable.

I had trouble attaching the following photo and it will not allow me to edit. Apologies.
BTW, Wynnie had just had dinner when this photo was taken, hence the slobber face.

My apricot doodle was red as a pup--not unusual--most doodles seem to change a lot--some get darker, some lighter--and some get lighter and then darker again!
