Hoping and praying that none of my fellow Doodle Lovers are effected by this, but wanting to send my thoughts and prayers to those that are and to let you know your Canadian friends are feeling for you. How heartbreaking that society (and lost individuals) can be so cruel. Children under 10 years old don't deserve this fate for any reason.. God Bless!!

Oh yes, the quota was rumored to be alive and well many years after that. There was also an unwritten rule about how many students would be accepted at Columbia's medical school from City College. I think it was one : )

True that only some people have changed. But I feel like a minority of "radical" thinkers have now become the majority, the new normal. What used to be business as usual is now considered morally reprehensible by many. That is progress. :-)

There are also other ways to protect yourself. A good alarm system and a big dog are two of them.

I once read that prisoners were interviewed and questioned as to which they would rather encounter when attempting breaking into a home: 1) a homeowner with a gun or 2) a dog. The consensus was they would rather be confronted by a homeowner with a gun then a dog because the person will hesitate-the dog won't. Unless of course that dog is TaraBear! :)

There was an incident years ago where a Rhodesian Ridgeback was awarded the Hero Dog of the Year award for saving his human sibling's life. The family was asleep when an intruder entered the house and tried to abduct the family's 10 year old daughter. The father did have a gun and confronted the man as he was dragging the child down the stairs; the father couldn't get a clear shot at the guy without hitting his own child. But the dog could. The dog came charging down the staircase, clamped his jaws onto the guy, and the man let the child go. He then fled the house, but the trail of blood from his wounds led the police right to him, and he was caught. John Grogan wrote about it in one of his books, it's one of my favorite true stories.

Dogs are great protection. The bad guys can't reason with a dog and they can't outrun a dog, lol.

I love this story! It gave me goosebumps!!

That's awesome.  But I can assure you, neither of my doodles have in them what that Rhodesian had.

Adina, you may be surprised...Daisy, the biggest Chicken Doodle in the world, was laying in my office when my boss came in (a man she dearly loves) dressed in a overcoat and Feodor type hat, in other words a stranger. Daisy jumped up, charged towards the door in "attack" mode growling and barking. I screamed "Daisy, it is Will" and she stopped dead in her tracks.

My poor boss may have wet himself but being the good sport that he is (thank goodness) said, well I guess we no longer have to worry about intruders. He then bent down, he had already removed his hat, and gave her a big praise and rubs.

I was shocked and very proud.

Wow, I am impressed. And if one of my doodles were to do that I have no doubt it would be Calla not Luca. The female dog warriors reign.

Agreed F.. Furthermore when I told DH about the incident he was all "puffed up" about it too. Silly man.

What scares me of course, although hopefully a remote chance here is that prepared people could easily poison a dog. A cousin of mine in Puerto Rico had that happen twice. And an intruder could certainly shoot a dog although they might not be the easiest target. As usual I wonder if my dogs would protect me if they heard menace in someone's voice or fear in mine. I love that Belgian Malinois, sorry Laurie, on Person of Interest. Of couse Luca has to be crated or asleep for me to watch : ) Ah, training. But I have tried.
