Yesterday Riley started coughing, just a little. It sounds like he has swallowed a ball of hair and is trying to get it out. Sometimes it actually sounds as if he is sneezing. Today he's still doing it and has coughed up a little bile on a couple of occasions. His energy levels are normal and he's eating fine. At first we thought he had swallowed something that was irritating him but after a day? He was vaccinated against Kennel Cough but now I'm wondering if this is it? I'm heading to London tomorrow, due back Sunday evening of course the timing couldn't be worse but my partner says he will take him to the vet tomorrow if he's still coughing. Now I'm worried...He was at the dog park about ten days ago and that's the only place I can think of unless it's airborn. He doesn't do day care . I wonder what the gestation period is.
If anyone has any experience of this and how serious it might be please chip in. I'm thinking of maybe canceling this trip (I'm a volunteer in the media centre for the Olympics London 2012 and this is a training day I'm going to)
****UPDATE
Riley seems fine and is only coughing a little so I have decided to go to London. I will phone the vet in the morning before I go and if he says to bring him to the surgery then my partner will take him. I am not as worried as I was initially. If this is KC then it is a mild dose. Thank you for all your great input, it is wonderful to have so many friends with such great advice and information at times like these.

Many thanks F for finding that link. I'm pretty sure he has a mild dose of it.
Hunter was doing that once, it was about a week after she was spayed. The vet said her's was basically an upper respirtory infection, gave her an antibiotic and something for the cough and she was as good as new. She did tell me that upper respitory infections in dogs are not uncommon and are often diagnosed as kennel cough. Personally, I don't get what the difference is but it sounded like there was one. Good luck and keep us posted!
Hoping Riley is ok!
So glad to hear Riley is feeling better! It's scary when the fur-kids are having a problem, especially if you're going to be away from them. You're such a good mom to think of cancelling your trip to London! So cool that you are going to be a part of the Olympics!
Hi Nicky...
Just checking in to see how Riley is feeling...
We'll be keeping him in our thoughts and prayers...along with you as you're in London.
Hugs...
Susan, I didn't end up going after all!!!!! I got to the gate at the airport and glanced at the TV screen which had a big warning of major snow in London and Heathrow canceling half the flights!!! I took a decision not to travel as I couldn't risk not getting home Sunday pm and not being at work Monday morning. Most bizarre thing and I had to go backwards through the airport and come home! So perhaps it was meant that I shouldn't go after all. I'm a great believer in fate and going with my hunches.
Riley is a whole lot better, coughing a little but not throwing up anything and generally very bouncy and happy. I spoke to the vet who said not to bring him in unless he got worse. We also are now making sure to avoid anywhere that there are dogs so as not to pass it on, so playing lots of games in the garden and house at the moment.
So happy to hear the little guy is doing better.
I'm sorry you missed the trip, but I'm sure Riley isn't! Glad he's feeling better!
that's too bad about your trip, but better safe than sorry. so glad Riley is feeling better!
Sounds like going with your hunch was a good one Nicky.
I'm sure Riley was happy to see you...and I'm sure your partner was happy to have you home for the weekend too! (smile)
So glad to hear that Riley is feeling better...
Hope your weekend was a good one.
Hugs...
Nicky, I am out of town so haven't been able to log on until just now. Both my guys had kennel cough last May when we were out of town. They had been immunized. Neither one needed medication and recovered well. I had tried to figure out how to get on DK to reassure you, but it seems that you have gotten great advice. Glad you are home with him now and that Riley is doing much better.
