I took Kali to the lake yesterday and let her have a swim. I decided to give her a bath afterwards since she was pretty sandy. She had her bath at about 2ish yesterday and I gave her a good towel dry but when it was time for bet she was still a little damp. I figured she would be fully dry in another hour or so. She is still a little damp this morning (just in her armpits). I feel awful that she was damp all night. She doesn't seem to mind, but I still feel bad. What do you do to dry off your doodles?? I have a raincoat for her for when it's raining and that really helps, but she loves swimming so much that I don't want to stop her if we're at the lake. I even lit the fire last night and turned up our heat (my fiance likes to keep the house fairly chilly) to help her dry off faster. I'd really love any suggestions you may have. Thanks!

I'll give that a shot. The only reason I hadn't tried that is that I was worried it would be too hot for her.
I blow dry wally! he dosent mind it at all, he just sits there like a king! ha ha
Hi - I Just bought this dryer for Maci. I have decided to groom her myself so figured I needed a dryer, because my own personal hair dryer is too hot and isn't strong enough. I got it through Pet Edge and am so glad I got it. I wasn't sure how Maci would take to it, but she was great. It doesn't near as hot as your own hair dryer and quite powerful but it didn't scare her at all. Not sure if the link will work.

The link did work, thanks. I think I'll try my hair dryer first on the low setting and see how that does. That's something I'll keep in mind though, I haven't been letting her swim nearly as much as she was in the summer (we were going most days). Now we only go once a week or so since it takes her so long to get dry. I hope she doesn't mind being blow dried too much =)
Hi Kate, I checked out that dryer as well. Looks great! One question though, how do you use it..... do you put her in her crate and hook the dryer to it? that is what I have seen my groomer do. Just wondering. Would like to start grooming Lucy myself too.
I always blow-dry Yoda after a bath. If not he will also stay wet for hours and hours. He actually loves the blow dryer now and won't leave my side in the mornings when I dry my hair because he knows I'm going to give him a few shots of warm air!
Are we the only ones that air dry year round? :) We used to blow dry Dexter, but it took so long so we just stopped. We dry them off well w/a towel and then they run like lunatics around the house and air dry.

They willingly roll around in the snow in 20 deg temps so I never think they are too cold to be wet.
Leslie, we are on the same page here in Oregon. We use towels all the time and we get our doodles pretty close to dry and then we love watching them run around and dry themselves off on extra towels. We keep our house temp between 60-70 in the winter. We also have fires going in our main room in the winter so they finish air drying on their dog beds while we are all lounging around. Our doodles seem to enjoy this method so much that we have never tried anything else.
Mine dry pretty fast...but on those days when Rosco gets a bath within a couple hours of a therapy visit I will use a blowdryer on parts of him to help speed things up. Our blowdryer has a cooler setting to keep me from burning him.

In the warm months I take him on a quick walk around the neighborhood so the breeze and sun helps him dry off.
I also use my blow dryer!!! They get used to it after a while!!
We tried the blow dryer yesterday. At first she really didn't like it but after a bit she was a little more ok with it. My fiance had her in either a sit restraint or a down restraint which seemed to help (we've practiced those since she was a very little) she knows when we do that it means there's something we need to do to her but she'll get a treat when we're done. I hope she'll get used to it enough that I'll be able to do it by myself. It took almost 20 min with the blow dryer to get her part way dry. Still much better than her being damp all day.
I use a blow dryer on my doodles when they get wet. This time of year they like to sleep in front of the fire so, when wet, fireplace naps are a lovely solution.
