My boy, the Klutz!!!

Duke has a sweet, loving disposition but boy is he hazardous to my health!  Here are a few examples of recent displays of klutziness.

While we were on vacation recently, Duke injured me quite a few times.  I wanted to shoot  some video of him playing at the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado.  I was probably about 30 feet or so from him when I called his name.  I saw he was running toward me so I turned my back to him and kept walking.  BIG MISTAKE.  He hit me full speed and took my legs out from under me.  I landed on my behind..HARD...right on my tailbone on the hard packed sand.  It jarred me all the way up my spine and my teeth clacked together.  (I am now starting to feel better and it doesn't hurt as much as what it did.)  Luckily it didn't bother me much when I was walking.  Just sitting, standing, and squatting.  The next thing he did was a couple days later.  I was sitting on the ground watching the dogs play at the base of a waterfall.  Duke picked up a stick, started running toward me and scratched it along the side of my neck!  Later he came up to stand beside me, I was still sitting on the ground.  Something grabbed his attention and he jerked his head around and hit me right in the mouth giving me a fat (bleeding) lip.  The day after we arrived home from vacation, Duke and Sheba were playing in the back yard.  Next thing I knew they were running toward me and Duke almost plowed me over again!!  I was able to lift up one of my legs and jump to the side to get out of their way.  That sure didn't help the pain in my tailbone!  Today I was playing with Duke.  He raised his paw up and scratched me down my face. (He's done this many times)  ARGH!!!!  These are just a few examples of my boy's less than graceful moves.  I could write a book!  How about you, do you have a klutzy Dood?

In another discussion I asked for suggestions on a collar that would make Sheba look more girly.  I haven't chosen on for Sheba but I did see one that may fit Duke.  What do you think?

In all fairness to Duke my hubby and I do have our moments of klutziness.  On vacation, Hubby was crossing a river and holding onto our good camera.  He was almost made it across to the other side but slipped on a slippery rock and he and the camera went under.

Camera no longer works.  While sitting by a pretty lake (still on vacation) I sat on a fishhook.  Hubby got it out. By the way, this has nothing to do with klutziness but more a matter of some of the dumb things that happened on vacation.  A stone flew up and hit the windshield of our vehicle.  It's now in the shop getting a new windshield!

Got any funny stories to tell???

Yes Cooper is a klutz! She is getting better at not falling over when she scratches, but she is always banging her head on the table, misjudging a gap and bashing herself against the door, tripping UP the stairs.

Last week the neighbour and I took the dogs to the beach - Cooper loves chasing after Brynn, but isnt as fast as the collie, so trips and falls all the time. In the space of just a few minutes, she tripped over her own feet and her face skidded along the sand, she fell down a hole someone dug, and she ran right into a huge log forgetting to go round it or jump over it. Each time she just got up and carried on!

Just the other day I threw a ball up high for her to catch, she jumped vertically and spun round, missed the ball and landed on her side with a big THUD. She just got up and went after the ball.

DH says she takes after me, Im constantly covered in bruised from banging into things - I generally cut myself with a knife most days when I cook, and i have been known to almost cut the end of my finger off with a blender when making hummus :(
incidentally, Cooper and I were playing fetch in the yard (her favourite game) when some friends called on the upstairs neighbours to take their dogs to the beach. Well, Cooper was so upset her friend was going out without her, she sat at the gate and cried as they all got in the back of the truck. They took pity on her and offered to take her too. My neighbour was going too so I said ok, though its the first time she has been off on an adventure without Mommy or Daddy. Usually I have her wear a harness and plug her into the seatbelt, but all the dogs were in the back of the truck (its a 5 minute ride). The side window was open A LITTLE to allow some airflow, but when Cooper saw I wasnt going with them she jumped out of the window and ran to me. Thankfully she actually landed on all 4 feet and her leash didnt get caught on something and strangle her. She then had to sit in the back seat squished between 2 strangers. I was worried the whole 2 hours they were gone, but she apparently had great fun and came when called every time Phew!
Quincy was recently" so not" looking where he was going and walked into a parked car.
I guess it's safe to say that Quincy will not be working as a guide dog any time soon! ROFL!
Oh darn, we've been blaming Gus' klutziness on the can of tomato soup. When he was about 6 months old a can of tomato soup fell out of the pantry and hit him on top of his head, he dented the can. I panicked, he shock his head and continued playing with his ball, I still have the dented can. Everytime he runs into a wall, trips over his feet, hits his head on a table etc., we say "tomato soup". You all proved us wrong, still keeping the can though the dents amazing.
His trainer at Pet Smart called him a blonde too.
I am laughing so hard reading all of these. I have to share some of my Murphy stories.

He was about 8 mos old and 80 lbs. and we were in our real obedience class with the strict teacher. (His 2nd class total).
We were working on recall with him on a 50 ft lead. I put him in a sit/stay and walked out 20 ft. My instructions were to show him the Cesar dog food in my hand, say "Murphy, come!" and turn and run away from him. Okay Doodle people do we see a problem here?
I got about 5 ft and he absolutely tackled me...in an asphalt parking lot. ouch

About 4 months and 10 lbs later we started agility class. One of the teaching assistants worked with Murphy and me on consecutive jumps.(very low). Her strategy was that I would hold him and she would kneel down and call him to her with the Cesar. (I might add, at this point, that she has very slow, 30 lb dogs.)
She call Murphy and I released him. He had about 20 ft to build up speed. I watched the trainer's eyes get bigger and bigger as she realized Murphy didn't have brakes. He just kinda ran through her, knocking her on her back. She was really a good sport about it. (and all the times he got the "zoomies" in class and terrified pet owners snatched dogs up in their arms, fearful the horse would run them down)

Oh, his other habit is coming between your legs from behind to sit. This was great when he was a 40 lb puppy. It made him feel secure and I had control of him. Fast forward a year. He is 90 lbs and 29 inches at the shoulder and still thinks he can do this.
My sons live in fear.
Ned and Clancy say that you are blaming the dood cause you don't want to admit YOUR clutzyness. Geez, you just get in the way of Duke's chosen path.......
I feel kind of bad now you had to go through all this..... when I only said be careful of all the bugs while camping! LOL Maybe bugs would have been better. BTW, sorry about your wonderful camera--Mike is a Klutz!
We got a gentle leader for our "Lizzy" because she is a very strong 52 lbs. It normally works great but..............As I was taking her across the street to the park, I had just gone around my garage and Lizzy was out front. All of a sudden, she bolted(must have been that neighborhood bunny) and I hit the ground. I had a grass burn under my eye and various bruises on legs and arms. I actually looked like I had a black eye for about a week. Told everyone, my hubby did it!:) Kidding but to my amazement, as soon as I hit the ground, Lizzy stopped dead in her tracks-she somehow sensed it was not as good idea to pull Mom anymore!
On the couch and in bed, she does come up and just flop down anywhere, on you, over you or between you, she just doesn't seem to care who or what she sits on! As long as she is close to her people!~ What a dood!
Did you ever get that doodle elbow in the stomach or some other tender area when they do that flopping down? Talk about pain!
Oh, the elbows-yea, I know exactly what you mean! Ouch. Hubby puts a pillow on his lap when Lizzy and Sammy are playing to protect sensitive parts:):)
Lizzy has been doing more silly things lately especially in the wee hours when I'm trying to sleep in. She gets on her back and slithers around until she is face to face and gives wet, sloopy doodle kisses to wake me up. I would swear she doesn't have a spine the way she manuvers............
