Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just read a kjiji ad (why oh why do I do this to myself) advertising some goldendoodle puppies for sale from a home breeder. The ad said that tails have been docked and dew claws removed. I have never heard of docking a doodle tail. I can't imagine Gavin without that saber plume of a flag that waves back and forth as he marches down the street. Also his dew claws are intact and have never presented a problem (you can hardly find them under the fur). Is it still a usual practice to dock poodle tails? What is the purpose? And dew claw removal? What is the purpose? Do any of you have dogs with these alterations? Just curious.

Both of my boys had their dew claws removed before we got them.
Trav had his dew claws removed before I got him. No tail docking, though!
Duke is one of the sweetest, most beautiful doodles it has ever been my pleasure to meet.
Same here :)
Ditto.
Duke is adorable! I don't think I've ever seen a doodle with this short of a tail. It's sweet. All I've seen in dog parks are 3/4 tails. Any doodles on DK sporting the 3/4?
OK...I concede...docked Doods are cute too. I've actually never seen one before so ...as the saying goes....never ASSuME:) Happy New Years to all .......
Duke is PDC! (pretty darn cute)
Camus is a DRC rescue, when they got him he had already had his dew claws removed and has a tattoo on his inner thigh. I can only think that both the removal of his dew claws and the tattoo were done by the breeder.
A tatoo - wow, never heard of this. Does it say "mom"? Just kidding :)
Although this wasn't the case with Camus, tattoos used to be fairly common in pet dogs before there were microchips, and used for the same purpose...to place a permanent identification on a dog in case of loss or theft. My GSD rescue group used to host "tattoo days" for owners to have their dogs tattooed for that purpose, and they were done on the inner thigh.
