Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
As you all know, I plan on adding a second dog to our family in the somewhat near future. I started thinking about something. Bexter is a total velcro dog. He has to be with ME wherever I go, follows me in every room, and sometimes gets tripped on. My question is - If I add a second dog, is it possible that he will follow the other dog around and not need me as much? Part of the appeal of a 2nd dog is to keep him company while we are gone at work or whatever. But...I don't want to be replaced. Does anybody have any experience with that? Thanks for any input!

I would not worry about being replaced. Doodles love their owners and are real people dogs. Once you get your second dog, then you will have 2 following you around. Everywhere I go I have 4 eyes looking at me, wondering and wanting something. We got our second doodle a few months after we got our first, they are 3 months apart and although the best of friends, I am still the most important person in their lives as you will be both your dogs also.
Well, Traci, I would say my dogs are more interested in each other than in me. Groucho Too, my big goldendoodle, would not leave my side after Hondo passed away, but once we got the puppy, they wrestle and play constantly. None of my dogs were that attached to me, but they have always had other dogs in our home.
Traci, Neither of my dogs follow me around. I must stink...LOL!! They both are so different, yet they both like their cuddles and hugs and that will never change. They love to play with each other, but they love it more if I am out there with them. I make sure to give them both their own attention and special time.
Now you will have HEAVY DUTY velcro!! Mine both follow me. They don't want to be out done by the other. They will smell eachother's mouth to see if we snuck a treat to one and not the other if they were not in the room! Things changed in our house because Myla came in 2nd and was the dominant one. Chloe adjusted and loves her snuggles even more now! Things will work themselves out but you really will not be replaced!
we live with my inlaws. when they got a dog, cooper wasnt as velcroed to me as before. it made me decide not to get a second dog of my own once we have our own place again. My inlaws dog is not a velcro dog at all (she not a doodle though)
