Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My mini doodle, Hank, is 12 weeks. He stays outside in the courtyard during the day and only comes in at night to sleep in his crate. He likes being outside where he can run and play which seems normal to me. I was raised with outside dogs. Hank is my first puppy on my own. At first, I thought I would try to keep him inside, but the potty training got to be too much for me since I have a mobility impairment, and my reaction time is slower than normal. He has never had an accident in his crate, doesn't cry at night, or need a potty break in the middle of the night. Please don't think I'm a horrible person. I love Hank as much as an inside dog owner. Just wonder if anyone else has an all or primarily outside doodle? Does anyone's doodle sleep outside? If so, how does that work out for you? Basically, I think I have one good puppy! Just want to make things as happy for him (and me) as possible. Thanks for any feedback or insight you have to share. Hope I don't end up feeling guilty about considering having him sleep outside. I really do love my puppy. Honest. I do.

too bad many missed the point.... I'm rather sick of this discussion and the recent responses myself.
Can we read between some of the original lines:
_in other words, we all live a pretty good life with our dogs and we only wanted the same for this woman and her dog! How can we help you? Why did you get a dog? --because we could not figure out why someone would not want to share this wonderful life we have. That's all. That was it.
No matter what you saw, or what you are reading, that was what many of us were trying to accomplish. And I might add, politely so.
When you are looking for fault, you find it. Looks like many may have been looking for and found fault. Too bad. I was looking to help her and her beautiful new baby puppy. It wasn't meant to be anyone's sweetness to YOUR ( not the poster but the reader) ears. It originally was totally something else. A way to reach out to someone who had never had a dog. Maybe, we could help her have a great companion. Someone to come home to. Someone to sit on the couch with. Someone to sleep with.......... but it will be happy looking at birds alone in the yard. Why bother? A yard ornament. Dress up the ceramic Goose! GREAT. What Ever!
She now has something in the yard and not the rest.
and ANYONE who thinks they can answer it better, or help her more, Go for it. I see suggestions of criticisms to those of us who responded and as usual, not suggestions from them or help from them.
Same old, same old.
I want to see more step forward with suggestions. Come forward and help those of us trying to help. Not criticize us because we don't answer it according to your standards. No one was originally trying to hurt feelings. This is serious people. If you can't take the deep stuff, get out. Go read the funny pages.
Better yet, come up with some ideas to help this woman have a loving companion
I think you've all offered all the info, opinions, facts needed for her to make her own decision. I'm not sure there's more you can do unless you lived nearby and would help her train him =)
I know. And I would train him for her in a heartbeat. FREE. I even offered on one of the original pages.
But, this is what she wants. And, I've accepted it a few weeks ago. It is just the recent........ the same old stuff when others say WE don't answer correctly, but offer no help themselves only criticisms. And, I've accepted that happens too.
Now, I'm off to play and cuddle with my dog. I'm lucky :)
I was not criticizing any of the helpful comments. I think they were awesome and I think everyone who did try to help is great. But it seems that when the person doesn't listen it always ends up degrading into bashing comments which are pointless and usually a bit out of line. I just wish that the help could be given, and if they don't take it then everyone can just move on. Not get nasty by calling people animal abusers and evil. THAT is the problem. What they were originally trying to do is beside the point. The comments that have been made (at least mine) are addressing what happened later, when she chose not to listen.
Agree.
Well said, Joanne!
It's a great opinion too! Thanks!
:) Nice Laurie. I just can't wait until you change that profile picture :) Looking forward to new pictures and your puppy stories~
We can be a your friend and not sugar coat things all the time. Most times, No one bites here. I've been bitten but it was because I needed help. Thank goodness I never ran away. My dog, my life, is better for it all
Scot :) See, we can all see both sides. That is what counts. I appreciate you coming back in and looking at other sides. I find this admirable.
Many times I post here only to read the other side and completely change my mind. Wow! I learn so much each day. That is the beauty of many of these discussions.
DK is many things to many different people. We all come from different backgrounds, different experiences. We are all entitled to our opinions. Many people come here to make friends - I know that I have, many people come here looking for help, I've gotten a ton, some people come to help educate - there is something for everyone. Once in a while we do get trolls - looking to stir things up a bit - the problem is you never really know for sure if it is real or not. When the behavior is what I would consider to be dangerous or abuse - then that is what I am going to call it - just my opinion - you don't have to agree and I don't have to apologize for it. Back when I was young dogs were left in or out - running free - we are now better educated. IF there is a young puppy who is locked in a courtyard all day and then crated all night - I find that abusive. So much could go wrong physically for this little pup with no supervison but mentally - how sad, how alone this puppy must feel with little interaction or new experiences. So no - I'm not the kind to pussy foot around when it comes to this type of thing.
