Gavin was outside for his morning routine and came back in with what looks like two puncture holes on his nose up near his eyes.  Does this look like some type of a bite?  I cleaned it up with peroxide and he is already on anti-biotics (which he is on for an extended period to a reoccurance of fever and elevated white blood cells a few weeks ago) and we have a vet appointment for tomorrow morning for blood tests.  Anything else I should be doing?  Energy is normal and he did not struggle when I dressed the wound.

Not great pictures but...

UPDATE!

So just got back from the vet and Gavin now has a poodle nose (got shaved down).  The vet though that a scratch from the fence was most likely.  He may have even done it in response to a bite - to try and scratch his itch.  As you can see he has a couple of other marks lower on his nose too.  They were not very deep once the nose was shaved.  It looks worse than it is really.

For those of you that have been following our "fever of unknown origin" saga, It looks like a lingering kidney infection was the problem.  Two weeks on anti-biotics and the  white blood cell count and temp are back to normal.  Urine is much better, but still a little protien.  He also gained two pounds - yeh!  We are doing two more weeks of anti-biotics and a follow up test to be sure.  So hopefully we are good and are leaving for a week at the cottage this afternoon.  Whew!

YIKES!!! Oh my...I hope someone else can answer this better I can.
I would say snake bite, but that would have been a LARGE snake...so I'm kind of at a loss. I wouldn't know what else to suggest though...you might just want to call your vet, to be on the safe side.
Keep us updated please!!
Wait, does he dig under any type of fence? That could also be scratch marks from sticking his nose between two pieces of fence boards, or under a chain link fence....
Hey - you may be onto something here - we have chain link on two sides of the yard.  I am going out now to check for fur.  CSI Doodle!
That's what I was hoping for not a bite!
Could he have been playing with something that had two sharp bits on it?  He might have been carrying something in his mouth that pressed down there?
Could be two separate insect bites too--we have black flies here that bite and make the wound bleed for a while. The actual bite is not as bad as it looks because there is more blood than with a regular bite. Otherwise, I would agree with the nose being scratched by an object in the yard. I left my dog with the breeder for a weekend and she came home with two big sores on her back and the breeder has no idea how they got there--could be the same thing in terms of cutting herself.
I can't even imagine what could have done this.  It looks very large for a bite.  Poor Gavin....please let us know.
OWE!  Poor Gavin.  I have no ideas.  I hope it heals fast.

Looks too large for a bite, especially as he was in your yard.  Because of the wounds' placement, I'd guess he was below/behind something and was too forceful in his attempt to investigate or retrieve whatever had caught his attention.  Probably a fortunate thing that he's on antibiotics and seeing his vet in the am. Maybe the vet will be able to suggest a cause...  Glad he's not feeling a lot of pain with it!  Let us know what the vet thinks went on.

Okay, I checked the fence and I found a spot in the corner where the chain link meets the board fence and there are two exposed and very sharp ends.  I measured them along my thumb and then measured that against the distance of the wounds and it matches (I could never communicate this type of thing to my "normal" friends lol).  So I am hoping that is the culprit and nosey noserson was jamming his snout in there after a June bug or something.  I will continue to keep an eye on things.  Thanks so much for your input - Lindsey you are brilliant!  I would never have thought of that!  Poor Gavin has had a rough month :(

p.s. would you put polysporin or anything like that on the wounds?

I'm wondering if dogs can get tetanus? Now that you've found the likely source, you might call and ask your vet. You might want to put cement bricks around the perimeter of the fence to prevent this from happening again. And yes, I would do Polysporin.

i have used bacitracin or triple antibiotic ointment on duncan's scrapes before. I love the CSI detective work by the way. Hope those wounds heal quickly
