I didn't think this should go into the Medical Issues group as it really isn't an illness so much as a motion issue. Bella vomits every time we take her in the car. Has anyone experienced this with their doodle and has it lessened or stopped as they got older and more used to the motion?

I take them with me whenever I am doing errands that they can participate in so they go out with me at least a few times a week. My car is going to start smelling pretty nasty soon.

Yes, we had this problem with Guinness until he was a little over a year old.  My Vet gave me a prescription for a non-drowsy anti nausea medication, and it worked great.  I would give him a pill an hour before we left and that was the end of his car sickness.  He did finally outgrow it, but it was wonderful to have the meds before that.
Oh thanks Jane, I will ask the vet for some meds. I didn't realize there was something like dramamine for dogs. Even if it is a drowsy formula, that wouldn't hurt, as she is pretty excited in the car still. Maybe she would relax and enjoy it better.
I'm sure she would....once we had the meds for Guinness he started to really love his car trips....it made a huge difference.

Murphy used to ride for hours a day with us in our 4X4 jeep on the bumpiest roads, most times there was no road, from the time he was about 3 months old. He would sleep through most of it, or just lay down and watch the sights go by. Never sick, never anxious. Bella started vomiting on the ride to and from the airport at 10 weeks when she flew to us and hasn't stopped. It has gotten later in the car ride and I think I have gotten a few quick trips out of her without seeing breakfast again. But that is not the norm. I feel bad for her as it always looks like a whole meal and she has to wait until dinnertime again to eat.

I think its quite common for dogs to feel sick, and once they have been sick in the car, they are like humans and will get anxious and this will make them sick all over again. If you can get meds from the vet to break the cycle thats great. there are also lots of natural remedies available at pet stores, though I havent used any so i dont know how good they work
Thanks Kaytlin, we have a very nice holistic natural pet store nearby, so I will check that out as well.
This is true; at 2 Harlow still get car sick in my car but does very well in my DD car.  I think she associates my car with being sick... or maybe that is her commentary on my driving. :-}
Maybe?  I know when I ride with certain people I tend to get car sick--especially around town where traffic is the more stop-and-go variety.  But long roads without stops and turns don't bother me.
What's funny Andrea is that she is the first to jump into the back of the SUV. She did it much younger than Murphy ever did too. It was quite a leap and she shows no hesitation or fear getting in. She doesn;t shake or look scared once in either, she just doesn't settle and enjoy the ride like Murphy. Sometimes he just falls right to sleep but she won;t even sit. I am hoping it is a maturity thing too, it's just getting messy and waiting 2 more years is a long time. Good for Riley though, it is so much nicer to take them if you are sure they enjoy it and not get sick.
I think I've heard that it helps if you can keep them sitting up straight and facing forward...maybe with a harness?
You are so smart Karen, she usually has had some water not long before this happens!!!!
CHLOE DOES THIS ONCE SHE IS OUT SOMEWHERE AND DRINKS WATER RIGHT AWAY-THANK GOODNESS THE LAST 4 TIMES WERE IN DH'S TRUCK!! HE NEEDS TO CLEAN IT AGAIN! I HOPE SHE GROWS OUT OF THIS SO SHE CAN PARTICIPATE! I WOULD ASK THE VET.
