I just saw a segment on TV tonight about the thousands of dogs that are being abandoned in the Everglades. Abandoning an animal is unacceptable under any circumstance, but this is extreme cruelty considering the climate and wildlife in the Everglades. They are subjected to a sure death. I guess I shouldn't be shocked at how cruel people can be to their animals, but I couldn't believe that so many people would make the long drive to the Everglades and dump their dog off with the alligators and snakes. The thought is just sickening. The story I watched tonight was about a rescuer who was a former manicurist. She went down there once with a friend and was sickened by the amount of abandoned dogs she saw. She gave up her job and now is devoted to rescuing the dogs of the Everglades.

The cruelty of some "humans" never ceases to amaze me! Just horrifying!

This is absolutely sickening.

Euthanasia would be human compared to this.

It is sickening to the max. Here is the actual HLN segment with Jane Valez-Mitchell. She is interviewing the girl who quit her job to become a full time rescuer. They showed before and after pictures of a Rottweiler she rescued from near death, who is now her beloved pet. It is amazing that the poor dog was able to recover.

This makes me sick.  How can someone do this?

This is disgusting. Some people are truly terrible.

Im grateful for the ex manicurist that helps these dogs! i just wish she wouldn't have to...  why would anyone go out of their way just to get rid of poor helpless dogs????

I am not watching this....I can't imagine.

These people make me ill--they should be dropped off in the middle of the Everglades! Someone I know from the dog park has been helping transport some of these dogs to various rescues--she has seen some very sad and neglected dogs. I am glad there are people pitching in to help.

There is a dog rescue here in Pittsburgh, PA, that is also helping out with these animals.  She heard about them and made arrangements to go down there and bring a few of the dogs back here to foster for adoption.  The condition of the dogs was horrible, to say the least, but she and her helper got them stablized and flew them back here to their rescue.  That was a month or two ago.  Haven't heard how they are doing lately but I think she is planning on making more trips down there once she has more fosters.  These people are heroes.

I cannot imagine anyone doing this to a dog. How terribly sad! This makes me sick.

This is the most sickening thing I think I've ever heard (at least this week).  WTF is WRONG with people.  *goes to hug Lupin close*
