Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I had the scare of my life today. The "boys" were in the back yard chasing each other around. I glanced out the window nad saw Nelson prancing (lierally) on top of the above ground pool cover. The cover was pulled in on one side from his bouncing.
We have a deck on the pool with a locked gate. I have no idea how he got up there. I guess I have to keep watch and try to figure out how he got up there. Any suggestions?

I have no idea what your pool decking looks like, but could he have jumped? A few months ago I went to pick up my Doods at the Groomers. They have a "dutch door" between the waiting and grooming rooms. When Murph heard my voice he jumped it. Nobody could believe it was even possible for him to do this since the top door was purposely built very high...about 4 ft. No other dog had ever done it. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't there to see it myself.
Wow Murphy that's incredible! Myla tries but hasn't done it yet!
My niece had a dog drown that way--so glad you found him in time---yes. they do jump very well when inspired!
Here is what I got for our above ground pool. It comes in a 2 or 3 ft height. If you have any snow built up around the pool or part of it sunken in the ground. It is very easy for them to jump up there. This fencing goes around the rail and there is a kit to connect it to a deck.

If the deck goes all the way around your pool. There is a safety cover that attaches to the decking. This might be another option.
Wow! I'm so glad you saw him. I would have freaked out!
OMD please be careful, my brother lost his Shitzu to this type of tragedy...a very sad day indeed. He thought it was secure but Cotton found a spot it wasn't. They too had a deck leading from their back patio door to the pool, also stairs to the ground...the pool gate was up and the pool covered, they have no idea how he got past the gate nor how this 15lb pup loosened the cover. Just thinking about it makes me upset all over again.
Oh my gosh! Those doodles are smart-yes keep watch so it can help you solve it. So glad everyone is ok.
Oh dear- that's scary, glad all turned out ok. We had a neighbors St Bernard break into our backyard in the midst of a big thunderstorm, and jump into the pool- needless to say he wasn't a good swimmer- it took 4 people to rescue the big guy. You are lucky to have seen this and now can take action, these dogs are amazing in their curiosity.
