My Doodle startled me awake at 2:30am with loud barks. There was nothing going on so I couldn't figure out what she was barking for. I led her back into my bedroom and closed the door, in case she had heard someone in the hallway of the apartment. But about an hour later she did it again, briefly and then flopped back to sleep instantly. This led me to think maybe she was having bad dreams.

Do doodles dream? What do you think they dream about? Bunnies? Kitties? Other doodles? their families (hopefully she wasn't having a bad dream about me!!)...

Lisa, We forget sometimes that lots of animals lost their lives and others survived a nightmare during Hurricane Katrina. Thank you for rescuing this sweet dog.
oh that's so sad. what an awful thing to happen to a poochie. I wish I could save them all!
That is so sad. She is having nightmares about that terrible ordeal.  You are wonderful for rescuing her.
Rooney & Stuart both dream, tiny little "woof woof" very softly.  I think that they are being big and brave and guarding their mommy!  LOL.
I bet they are too Jane. lol.
Since dogs experience REM sleep (or so I've read), I do believe that they dream.  I'd like to think that when my guys are smiling in their sleep they're dreaming about cuddling with Mom (how's that for "wishful thinking"- maybe it's all about steak).  When they're having a bad dream which doesn't happen often, it's probably about me putting them in a really long "down/stay".
Chloe does this ALL the time, she has bad dreams because she always squeaks, yipes, whimpers don't know what to call it but her feet are also moving around-we usually wake her.
Halas sometimes makes funny little noises when he's dreaming.  They are almost like barks, but without opening his mouth.  But a couple of times in the last month, he has let out a really loud, long howl.  Almost like the howl some dogs use when they hear sirens.  Except that Halas doesn't howl at sirens, and there aren't any sirens anyway when he does this.  It's funny.  Just one howl, and then back to sleep.
All 3 of our dogs do this.  Sam (cavapoo) would have twitchy feet, increased breathing, occ woof.  Kylie (maltese cross) is the same, but even more woofing and her lips quiver and nose twitches.  Pippin doodle is the most active of the bunch, grr uffing away, feet twitching, leg movement etc.  If you watch there eyes, you will see rapid eye movement which is a normal part of the sleep cycle.  I like to think they are chasing bunnies
yes they do dream... not often are their signs of bad dreams but I see their legs moving or they whimper or bark...  I just read an article on this but cannot find it..
Darwin runs, twitches, whimpers and occassionaly woofs or growls when he's sleeping. :-) Not sure what he dreams about but it sounds exciting.
he runs? really?
