Hello all!

I was wondering how the various duties of owning a dog is divided up in your household. Do your kids help? How about DH? Are specific tasks assigned to specific people?

I'm just curious and interested on how others take on their doodle responsibilities.

Thanks!

Since I originally wanted a dog and DH didn't, we started out with my doing most everything for Murphy. He was supposed to be MY dog and not my husbands "problem". So I did everything pretty much for so long that it just became our routine. DH has always played ball with both, especially Murphy, and he is has done a great job of teaching him "drop" so well. He takes them for a sort walk once in awhile, but I am their main entertainment, walker, feeder, chef, trainer, groomer, vet visits, administer medications, discipline and toy supplier. we share doo-doo duty, clean up of wet, muddy, messy dogs when needed and we both love taking them with us wherever we can.
DH has come a long long way from where we started, and I think he now feels he is totally responsible for the wonderful, well behaved, sweet, kind, smart dogs we have since he gives them bacon when he cooks it and they sit really well for him. I don't tell him they will sit for me for hours for just a big smile and belly rub. I really don't mind and he loves them both and is their best buddy. He'd do anything for them if I asked. Just no need to ask
I do everything. My daughter plays with her and feeds her dinner. DH plays with her.

I do all of the grooming but the rest of the duties are somewhat shared with me getting 75% of them. DH may have to take over some of the grooming as I have arthritis in my hands and grasping a comb or brush is becoming more difficult.

Since I was the one that convinced my DH that we needed not only 1 but 2 dogs, I end up with most of the doodle work.  My DH does however take care of 90% of the poop pick up so I can't complain there!  I am the one that does all of the doodle related research (grooming products, health issues, best food/toys/treats, etc).  That doesn't bother me though because I am big into research and list making!  I do all of the grooming, but DH steps in to hold Cubbie so that I can trim his back nails and holds Ollie still when I dry him after a bath...I guess he is the muscle in the operation here.  :)

My husband is retired (I still work part-time) and one of the biggest reasons we got Sedona when we did was to give Doug a pal and something to do.  He's the feeder, the poop picker-upper, the driver to the groomer, etc.  He also spends tons of time each day throwing a yellow squeaky ball!  I'm the one that gets to play and play and play - without all the work :)

I admit DH walks them more than I do, I'd rather play ball in the yard with them.

We both feed them whoever is around at feeding times.

I brush them and trim them

We all (Chloe too) go to the vet and the groomer for Myla

Whoever gets the big couch in the evening gets to snuggle with both doodles all night.
