Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are planning a Doodle friendly car trip to Maine and NH. We are planning on many park stops, dog park runs, and as doodle friendly as possible.
We are traveling from Nova Scotia and have done this cross border shopping trip many times, this is the first time we are going as a family with Chester.
He is fine in the car -we have done a lot of road trips.
He is 83lbs.. and we are already staying at a hotel Inn (with their blessing) that has a 50 Lb dog limit.
Any one live in the area and have dog friendly suggestions- Parks, beaches, stores, Pet supply stores ? Any tips and tricks are appreciated.
We can't wait to have a great vacation. (last year we missed Chester like crazy on our Vacation).
I also can't wait to go in my first Joe Trader - after reading so much on DK about it.
Thanks
Hazel + Chester

thanks.. I'll check it out.
Love that app!
We solved that problem by buying an RV. We take both our Doodles everywhere and they stay in the RV if we go to dinner with the A/c going, Most of the nicer RV parks have fenced dog runs and all are dog friendly. All of our RV friends always travel with their pups.
Other than that , La Quinta Inns are pet friendly and prior to buying the RV we never had a problem staying with them ( One doodle is 80 lbs and one is 45 lbs.). We are traveling this summer from Florida to Maine and will take a few weeks to see the area. Rent one to see if you like RV'ing....great way to travel with the entire family!
The Inn by the Sea in southern Maine (near Portland) is a lovely hotel that's been pet friendly for 15 years. My brother and I were just talking about it the other day. They even offer room service for dogs - with a full menu! Right on the beach - it's a lovely place.
I'm going to link this to my friend in Maine. She has two beautiful doodles and this is exactly what she does for a living.
If you are going south along the coast of Maine as far as Kennebunkport--just north of Portsmouth NH, there is a nice motel there that has reasonable rates and a few pet friendly rooms. We looked at the pet friendly rooms when we stayed there without our dogs and they were nice! here is a link to the place. It is called the Lodge at Turbat's Creek and it is a nice place to stay in general--friendly staff too.
No tips here, Libby does not like to travel, but it sounds like a WONDERFUL vacation. Have lots of fun and safe travels to you and Chester!
If you are traveling through the midcoast region (Belfast/Camden/Rockland) feel free to send me an email at robin@penbaychamber.com. I work at the local Chamber of Commerce and can get you names of places to stay. There are dog parks in Belfast and Camden (and one in Portsmouth, NH, where I used to live). There aren't a ton of restaurants where you can take dogs around here (we travel to FL, and we're always looking for places with outdoor decks where we can take the dogs!). Feel free to email me. And this Downeast Dog News might be helpful, too: http://downeastdognews.villagesoup.com/
Thank you so much Robin :)
