It was a beautiful day today and I let Charlotte stick her head out the car window.  We were only driving to my mom's house - down our long driveway and across the street.  Anyway, as we pulled into the driveway, I heard this frantic yet muffled, panicked whimpering.  Charlotte had her head in the window but she was standing on the window switch so she had rolled the window up on herself.  I mean all the way up so she looked like she was "hung" on the window.  I used the master controls and quickly rolled down the window but it was somewhat frightening.  I just wanted to remind everyone to have the window controls "locked" if you are letting your dog stick his/her head out.  It was 4H dog class night so our car ride had just begun but poor Charlotte stayed far from the window the rest of the evening.

Thanks for the warning - I never even thought of something like that happening. Glad Charlotte is OK.
The same thing happened to Huff one day when he was a puppy. I was so scared. I couldn't do anything but scream haha (it was my window, i should have done something) It was about 30 seconds of him being in the window. We put the window down quickly. He was okay but very scared.
I too am glad Charlotte is okay. This is a very scary thing to happen to our doodles.

Thanks for the reminder, Thank God Charlotte was okay. Yesterday I stopped at the UPS store and I usually bring Jack in with me, Instead I pulled right up to the door and left him in it with the window half open. I was literally dropping off a pre paid package. As I turned around my little guy, yes the little one that has knee cap issues was climbing out the window.  He is so used to going with me, I don't ever leave him in the car but this was just one minute, he would have fallen far and hard I have an SUV.

I had to go get him and bring him in the store, just so I could drop off the package...

I'm glad Charlotte is OK. I think allowing dogs to stick their heads out of car windows in dangerous. The can get things blown into their eyes among other things. Now you have pointed out another danger.
I get nervous when Huff sticks his head out the window but he loves it so much. He only does it occasionally and when the car is parked.
Years ago when the power windows first came out - we had a Lab puppy that almost was choked to death due to stepping on the window button.  We learned to lock them with the master button but one day the puppy decided to take a leap out of the window while the car was slowly moving, yes he was on a leash so we were able to keep him from hitting the ground but was scared to death.  Since then NO animal in my car can ride with the windows down, partly down or even cracked open.  Of course Rooney is strapped into a car seat and couldn't reach the window but too many other things can happen, we once had a car pass us that threw a smoke out of the window and flew right into our car, lucky for us we saw it happen and nobody got burned.  So glad that Charlotte is o.k. and thanks for the reminder.
Poor girl.  I'm glad she's ok.  Thanks for the warning.  I'm lucky with Halas.  He just sits in the back seat.  He looks out the window, but he doesn't get really close to it or try to stick his head out.
That's how Webster is but Charlotte wants to "experience" everything.  Halas and Webster could have a nice ride together :-)
How scary, I'm glad Charlotte is okay!
Poor Charlotte-my husband from day one has said no heads out the window because they can jump, get stuck, or get any kind of debri in their eyes.He also locks the windows from the driver side so they can't step on the controls. He even puts the switch on the child lock doors. So, I have a sunroof in my car and when I open it they just stick their faces up in the air as the wind blows their hair and they like that. We were on a walk in the fall and it was a really warm day and this HUGE DOG was looking out the sunroof in a mustang, he actually had is paws restingon top of the car-funniest thing ever! Thanks for the refresher though.
That happed to us too!!!  Shelby was happy to see the neighbors and up  up up went the window.  So embarassing,  I felt like the worst Doodle parent...
