A week ago our Quincy had her spay. That evening because she couldn't do the stairs up to our bedroom we decided to bring out the blow up mattress and all camp out in the living room with her. I went up the stairs to grab some pillows and slipped on my way down. Falling to the bottom I screamed out in pain and noticed my foot looked weird, I must have been in and out of it. My DH called 911 and in her post op stupor my Q layed down on my chest. She remained there while the paramedics worked on me, I dislocated my foot, broke my leg in 6 places and injured my back. It was pretty serious, I was scared and worried who would stay with my pup while I was in hospital. The EMS remarked what a good dog she was and as my sister in law arrived to watch her they carried me out to the ambulance.
I spent a five days in the hospital, had a sugary to repair my leg, my husband said they had to run out to Home Depot and get extra hardware (alway a sense of humor). I'm on the mend, struggling the first few days back home. I have a full time nurse assistant to help me do all the things we take for granted, and yes also walk the pup. I have a four month stint in a wheelchair but lucky it wasn't more severe or a more permanent time in the chair. My DH said every day I was gone the dog sat by the door refusing to sleep in her bed, or any other room, and she moped around. The first few days he thought it was her post op behavior but she would refuse to leave the area in front of the door I left from.
Once I came home she was and continues to be my best medicine. She is getting used to the wheelchair and when I am struggling in pain she is right there with me. She now sleeps alongside me with her snout carefully perched on my casted leg. Doodles are very special loving animals, I'm so blessed to have her.

Oh my goodness, I just read your post. I am so sorry that happened to you. Quincy is going to be such a huge part of your healing. With her love and all the love and support from family and friends you are going to get through this. I so believe that the bond between person and their dog can't not be explained in words. There is no way I could write the amount of love that I have for my dog Hurley. When you got hurt Quincy knew that something was wrong and she was there beside you until you left to go to the hospital. Her loyalty is with you and her heart belongs to you. She would move heaven and earth for you and until the day she does leave this place she will be right by your side. Her love for you will make you get stronger and stonger with each day. I pray for you that you have a recover well....give Quincy lots of hugs!! She is a great doodle for staying by your side when you needed comfort and were hurt....God gave us a wonderful gift when he gave us dogs....they are our angels....

Regina and Hurley

What a catastrophe but I am glad you are recovering. It is very frightening how fragile we are. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and Quincy helps you along.

Gosh thanks or all the kind well wishes I take every word to heart. Quincy is such a special dog, and she's only 6 months old. She gives me much comfort and peace. It's going to be very hard not to walk her and or play as if I had two good working legs but we will find new ways to be active together. When I hired the nurses aide my number one criteria was they must love dogs, but hey what's not to love. Thanks again for all the warm healing thoughts. I will keep you posted on my recovery.
