My 7 month old puppy doesn't like to sleep on cushions or beds. When we first got her her at 5 months old she would crawl under the crate cushion to lie on the tray, so now we have a smaller cushion in there, which she hardly uses, and hag now taken that out too. This week we let her sleep in our room out of the crate, and she has been very good. I am surprised though, that she will cuddle on the bed with me for about 5 minutes then jumps off the bed. She starts the beginning of the night sleeping on the hard cold tile bathroom floor bedside the floor mats, then maybe 1/2 way through the night she comes into our bedroom on the carpet. I could understand if she was a burly husky or Shepard, but she's a skinny doodle, whose elbows bang on the floor when she plumps down! I would put her on a comfy dog pillow in our room and she is back in the bathroom before I even get back into bed, lol. Anyone else have a doodle who prefers the hard sleep in surfaces?
She is also so black that it's hard to see her in the dark. You never know where she is at night, so my DH takes his cell phone to light his way to the bathroom, lol.

I would say the majority of them do this.  The tile floor is cool.  They get too hot in the bed or with all the stuff in their crate.

Yep. I think Sawyer cuddles on the bed with us for 5 minutes out of obligatory loyalty and love, then he's off to find a cool, hard place! :-)

It definitely seems to be a doodle thing. Both of mine prefer to spread out on the cool tile floors. My schnauzers, on the other hand, all prefer to cozy up in the beds. :-)

The floors in our entire home are tiled.  Holly will sleep on our bed or on the couch or in a dog bed until she gets hot, then she will spread out on the tile floor to get cool.  Sometimes she rotates during the night from our bed, to a dog bed on the floor to the cool tile.

However, Coco, a Labradoodle who we rescued and placed for Doodle Rescue Collective, Inc., never sleeps on the floor.  She comes to visit us a couple of times a year when her family goes out of town.

She will sleep either on her dog bed (which her family brings with her) or on our couch.  Since, she goes to the beach quite often, her owners keep her coat clipped rather short.  That might be the reason that she doesn't get hot.

We generally keep Holly's coat just a bit longer that Coco's parents keep her coat..

Our entire house is covered with hardwood floors and tile. Cocoa is generally a carpet girl, though. We have dog beds and small carpets scattered around the house and that's where she rests 90% of the time. I would think she'd prefer the cool floors- we live in sunny Los Angeles.
Our first dog is 3/4 retriever, so I guess maybe that's why she loves the bed. We have to kick her off when we want to go to sleep, then she pretends to be sleeping, hoping maybe this time we will leave her in the bed. She loves sleeping with my daughters In their bed. I guess I just thought that's how all dogs were, so I felt bad that Piper didn't want to have anything to do cushions. Good to hear there's lots like her. Thanks

Picco doesn't use a soft bed. I have dog quilts that he knows are his beds (great for traveling or visiting). He usually lays on the carpet or occasionally on the cool tile or laminate floors. He's never been one to get on furniture and when I've coaxed him onto a bed he is uncomfortable and is ready to hop off at any time.

My two are in our bed more than out, but when they are out of bed its to go to the cool tile floor.

Our standard Doodle, Murph, definitely prefers the cool hard surfaces.  He often goes into the bathroom to sleep on the tile floor.  Our mini, Guinness, prefers his bed or sometimes will sleep under our bed.
