Jack seems to have found a new hobby. He is licking his penis all the time, and sorry for the TMI but it is actually exposed and not in the skin. BLEAK

It is not red, swollen of inflamed, his urine test not that long ago was fine. How much is normal behavior and what the heck do I do to stop it? It really grosses me out and I am tempted to put little boy underwear on him to make him stop.

Any advise??? Where else is one to go to ask a questions such as this?

Traci, Vern has never done this and still pees like a girl. It could just be Jack :) Just kidding, Jennifer!
Back off Laurie.. Don't be messing with my boy in his Cinderella underwear!!!!! LOL
oh Im so glad I have a girl!
Just had a funny thought   I'm wondering if there's anything that doesn't taste nice (but is harmless) that could go onto the offending bodily part to make the whole event not such a pleasant experience!
I know exactly what you mean...only in our house it's Murph who does it to Guinness.  Yes, he licks Guinness's penis until the "red rocket" appears.  Guinness really enjoys this activity, but eventually has to run away to let it "go back into it's rightful place".  When I catch them at it, I correct BOTH of them...perverts.  They know enough to try and hide, but I know when they disappear they're either doing "that" or they're humping, so I go after them and catch them in the act.  I would tell Jack "no" firmly and redirect him when he first starts.....as long as there is no physical reason for it.  BOYS!!!!

Oh great!  Is that what I have to look forward to if I get another boy dog?  They hump and lick EACH OTHER?  Well...I was worried about that if I got a girl dog (I'd have her spayed of course & Bex will be neutered), but I always wondered if he might hump her & gross me out.  Can boy dogs actually have sex with girl dogs after neutering?  Would they even try with a spayed girl?  I guess I might as well find out what I'm in for now.

If boys will do it to each other, I guess I don't have much hope either way!

I have a neutered male and a spayed female.  The male is over 3 years and the female over 1 year.  They do not hump one another and there is none of the licking behavior.   Is this constant licking behavior normal?  I think something must be irritating Jack.  All I can tell you Traci is that my dogs romp, wrestle and play but don't try to copulate.  It isn't that I have trained them not to, it just hasn't happened.

I would very much NOT like to think that is what my dog is doing.. because I really will throw up no joke.  Jack has never humped anything, except a few times as a puppy. He is neutered and I agree humping should be an unacceptable behavior..

Yuck. I will update later.

Thanks for your replies

I guess this means I will HAVE to teach my older boy (almost 11) about the birds and the bees (or should I say the doodles?) before I get another dog?  I guess I'd rather teach him than my doodles!  FUN!

OMG> I AM going to puke, I just woke up.. my stomach just flip flopped, I am really short on money this week but I am going to take Jack into the vet before my 1130 am appointment... THank the Lord they live down the road from me, If he is just licking for pleasure he is moving out of my bedroom into his own. He has never done this before. He humped a few times as a puppy but I corrected the behavior and he does not hump now.

Do girl dogs not lick themselves???

OMG!!!

Hi Jen...

Just checking in to see how Jack is?

I didn't have much time last night when I posted...so I just stuck to the point...because I wanted to get you some "helpful" advice.

I just had to let you know that when I googled about "Jacks Hobby"... to find our what might be causing it...some Very interesting things came up...*no pun intended)!!  Lol...

Then one that caught my eye...and made me "fear" getting lots of wierd stuff coming to me on my computer

Let me make it Perfectly Clear...I Did Not Open These Strange Links...I know better!  Lol...

Anyway...the strangest one was from a man who talked about peanut butter...and his dog...and...well...it was just too...too much!!  Lol...
