Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I had an interesting "conversation" on the Facebook Group - I love my Goldendoodle. Apparently they took offense to my questioning a potential BYB about health testing, breeding rights, etc..
I only asked the obvious questions. I had to question why someone would breed a multi gen labradoodle with a F1 goldendoodle - wanting hunting dogs.
I also asked if the group condoned irresponsible breeders - the response from the administrator was something like - we don't discuss this.
OK - so I quit the group and someone else got banned for agreeing with me.
Sorry just had to rant.

I can't even look at the FB doodle groups any more. The level of stupidity is just too depressing and frustrating. I'd be up all night worrying about even more dogs than I already worry about. I keep telling myself "now I've heard it all", only to find out a week later that I haven't.
So agree.
I don't even look at the FB groups. There are wonderful people there I know, but so many are truly morons and you just can't fix stupid.
I don't disagree that there are some difficult topics to endure but I have had some private conversations when I offer information and those I believe have helped a few people as they consider breeders, food issues , training etc. I generally do not comment on posts except when I say something encouraging to those who are making great choices. If the person asks a question I will often say in the comments I would be happy to share some information if they want to private message me. Often they do and then I direct them to this site. But I do agree - there are some times that I am shocked at the things people do!
PMs are generally a better way to communicate on FB. In the groups, you have so many people commenting on a picture in a post without even reading what it's about, that the comments often don't even have anything to do with the topic, lol.
Most days, I just have to scroll on by. I agree that the level of stupidity is appalling! And these people are giving out advice to unsuspecting good intentioned people who in turn are just becoming part of the problem. Sometimes I do get involved (when I have the energy) and I always direct people to come here and to the Food Group. It in incredible that these groups have admins who ban people for agreeing with anything!
What gets me is the "anything goes" attitude. Nothing is wrong, there is no wrong or right, and if you dare to say otherwise, you are being "judgy".
And the rehoming...there are days I either have to walk away or take a tranquilizer, lol.
Oh man how frustrating! How do you say "we don't discuss this!?" That's why we have essentially banned all talk of breeders. That's the only way to keep the BYB recommendations out without having an argument about it.
Those of you IN Facebook groups, please share our podcasts and articles! We'll eventually get more podcasts out, I promise. Our first episode is a great one to share because it emphasizes rescue.
Thank you for that. The admins might frown upon "better place" lol. Hopefully once we get the podcast more regular that might seem a more palatable way to spread info ;-)
I really need to take this opportunity to rant about the stupidity of the people in the FB doodle groups. I administer all 6 of the DRC Facebook groups and pages as well as the DRC website. There are days when I could tear my hair out and days when I could cry. Rarely do I feel like laughing.
I just had someone ask to join the DRC website. She stated that she had learned about DRC from Facebook, and that she was asking to join the site because: "I'm looking for a red F1B female goldendoodle, medium sized."
On a rescue site.
It was very hard not to ask her if she wanted fries with that.
Earlier this week, on the DRC Facebook page, I had a lady trying to post a 9 week old goldendoodle puppy that she is trying to rehome, for $1900. "Our lives have changed and we cannot keep her". Wait...the puppy is 9 weeks old, so that means you've had her a week? What could have changed so drastically in a week? And why not just return her to the breeder?
Needless to say, I didn't approve the post.
Then the same lady sends a private message. NOW I know why the name seemed familiar to me. On September 2nd, this same lady sent this message to a rescue group: "Do you have any goldendoodle puppies for sale?"
You would have been proud of me; I very patiently explained what rescue groups do, lol. Further discussion revealed that she had never owned a dog before and therefore would not have qualified to adopt from DRC anyway. So I gave her the links to What to Look for in a Breeder as well as "Considering a Doodle".
But apparently, there are some people who cannot be educated even here on DK. One month to the day later, there she is on FB looking to sell "rehome" a goldendoodle puppy she's had for a week. The "reputable" breeder she found told her that in NY state, it's against the law for her to take the puppy back. And she was very shocked and unhappy when I told her that rescues don't buy the dogs they find homes for. She can't just lose that $2000 she paid.
I've been worrying about that puppy all week.
I never did get an answer to the question of what could have changed so drastically in a week. She kind of avoided that question.
But at least I did get the name of the scumbag breeder.
