Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Since I have been on DK almost since DK became a website, I have watched many people (including myself) come aboard and be educated not only about all things Doodle, but Dog things in general. I've often said that if it were not for DK, DH and I never would have survived two puppies, much less Liter mate puppies. We have learned so much of what to do and what not to do. We would probably be feeding Science Diet or IAMS as the last time we had a dog those were the go to foods. I know we would never have gotten Pet Insurance and I'm not sure how we would ever have made it through a torn CCL surgery, much less Sophie's cancer and loosing Sophie without DK. I know that we would never have AnnaBelle as it was only because of those here that I learned about her breeder and the wonderful puppies that result. Yes, we have a lot of fun here, but we also learn and educate others. With that said, I cannot tell you how many times lately I've just wanted to scream with the posts on FB on the various Doodle pages. Sometimes it feels to me like we have lost the battle. I get so frustrated when a question gets asked and 50 people jump in and say "I feed Purina and my dog is wonderful" or "look how cute she is stealing socks by the dozens". FB is a great social site and I love it for keeping up with our military friends all over the world, but as a teaching tool it, suc$s! It is too hard to have a discussion educating people when they make these posts when there are so many people handing out bad advice. 5.5 years ago I would not have known how much of it is bad advice, but I feel like 5.5 years and three doodles, and DoodleKisses have given me a little bit of knowledge and I can see how bad the advice is. The people don't have bad intentions, and they are trying to help, but ugh, it makes me crazy!

I only got one last year so that I could vote in a contest. YOu have to have one for so many different things and the world assumes everyone does. Mine doesn't have my name...just Daphne's. And my only friends are DK people. and a couple people who "caught" me. I dont tell anyone else because if I wanted people to know what I was doing, I would tell them! ANd I certainly don't want them to know what I eat every night..LOL! My daughters both have them and my relatives are always asking ME why they posted "A", "B" or "C". Or why we did "such and such" and didn't tell them. Causes too many problems!
LIKE!
I also use Jack's name on FB. I joined my Junior High Reunion Group on FB a couple of years ago, and one person sent me a message: "I don't remember a classmate named Jackdoodle". LOL!
That's almost as good as the ciderdoodle! LOL!
I hope you told them Jack was your Ciderdoodle! OmD I love that story Karen!
I like it for entertainment. Short sweet notes, pictures, causes, and news. Reminds me of a USA today newpaper. All short and colorful messages. Like Cheryl, I resisted it forever! Just recently < last Spring> have I gone on there for a few things a day.
But honestly, I removed myself from all Doodle Groups. I cant stand the awful advice, stupid people........ breeding 6 month old puppies, telling people to bite their puppies or kick them, horrible medical advice.
I've never regretted leaving. Why upset myself? After all, I saw the place as entertainment. Not frustration.
I so agree with this.
Facebook has always made me want to scream - never mind - others have said it well.
I do most certainly appreciate the information here on DK - but you know most of it I hit with other researches, just because I am ocd and nothing beats my own peace of mind. Gadzooks, it does scare me sometimes how backwards and fragmented things can get in a collective.
It's apple season here and I want a CiderDoodle - love that :)
LOL, she and I laughed about it privately on FB when it happened.
Nothing to do with stupid advice but speaking of FB -- some of you might remember when we learned about the rescue of the 21 doodle kids through another DK member and FB. At the time, the D V Golden Retriever Rescue only rescued goldens but they could not NOT help these pups. DK members stepped up to help too, like we always do! The Director sent us a message that DK rocks and she (despite being a self professed breed snob) had fallen in love with one of the pups. Today I got an email and my reaction to her photo at the top was between laughter and tears. I guess I'm feeling a tiny bit better about FB today. I'm going to try to post it here cause I think you'll get a smile too.
OMDG -- Amazing things happen when you open up your mind and your heart! Adorable. And I must say, looks a little like a Ciderdoodle, lol.
lol
