Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

An old friend of mine just had a tragic loss when her six-month-old, male mini labradoodle was killed in a fire while being boarded over Christmas vacation.

The family is distraught, but they adored that puppy, and they would like to get another.

If anyone knows of a similar aged puppy that might be available, will you let me know? They live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but they are willing to travel somewhat.

I know their dog was quite mellow, and both spouses work full time, so they wouldn't be looking for a dog who is being given up due to energy issues if that makes sense...

Thanks so much!

It just breaks my heart to think of those poor dogs trapped in cages in a burning building with no one around to help them.

I lost a poodle cross puppy many many years ago in exactly the same way. We came home to find a letter on the mat saying the boarding facility had burnt down during the holidays. I was very young but I will never forget that and the awful sadness but worse for me as a child, no body to bury. His name was Jet.

What a terrible thing for anyone to go through, let alone a child.

Oh Nicky....what a horrible experience for a child to suffer through.  I am so very sorry for the loss of Jet and the painful memories of his death.

That is so sad, Nicky. I can't even imagine. I'm so sorry. I wish my friend was on this board so she could appreciate all this outpouring of love.

I know Karen.....The thought of those poor dogs trapped and the pain they must have gone through....Just makes me sick to my stomach.

I like to believe that it was smoke inhalation that killed them, and they "went to sleep" and did not suffer for long. My brother is a retired firefighter and he shared with me that most people who are trapped in burning buildings die from the toxic smoke.  That's what I want to believe.  You know me, Karen.

Yep, and I had the exact same thought. I'm sure it's true.

I can't believe this.  Terrible.

What a tragedy! I have 2 friends in Montreal who recently purchased goldendoodle puppies. I will get the names of their breeders and check to see if there are any older puppies available. It's a long shot, but worth a try.

Diane, you might persuade them to go back to square one and take a young puppy. Sometimes if older puppies are still at the breeders they have missed out on that all important socialization which can make a huge difference.

So very sad for the puppies and the owners. I hope they find a new puppy to love when they are ready.
I know we would be heartbroken to know that our puppy had suffered so.
