Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We had the bad news over Thanksgiving that Groucho Too has cancer of the liver. He had a cancerous cyst on his spleen that burst so they did a spleenectomy and had the spleen biopsied. It was cancer. They also saw nodes on his liver during the surgery. So....what to do? He has the stitches out tomorrow, so we have decided to tell the vet we want plenty of pain medication for him when he starts to be bad and we have decided to have him put down at home. There is a traveling vet who will come to the home to do this. There is also a pet crematorium in our little town who pick up corpses and take them for cremation. We will have him put down at home, cremated, and the ashes buried at home. We have even picked the area for his final resting spot. We are ready to lay our beautiful goldendoodle to rest.

I'm so sorry. It is a tiny blessing that you can prepare. And I might add a very nice preparation plan indeed. Wishing you and your family strength and as many good days as you can get with your beloved dogger. Hugs.
Yes, I sure know what you mean. Groucho Too is only 7 years old but he has been with us his entire life and has known lots and lots of love. We don't want him to be in pain and will make his death as painless as possible. I'm pretty happy with our plan. When Hondo died (also seven years old) we were not planned for that and his ashes are still in a beautiful wooden box on our bookshelf. It does make it more final to finally put them in the ground.
I'm so sorry Lynda. Keeping you all in my prayers.
My heart aches for you, Lynda, but you and Groucho are in our prayers. It sounds like a loving plan.
I am also very sorry to hear this. My son just went through it last week and he and his family had a Viking style cremation on the pond at their home, I think it soothed them to have that process. My prayers to you and Groucho for a peaceful transition.
Lynda, I'm so sorry you have to be making these last plans. But at the same time I'm hoping for plenty more happy memories with Groucho Too. You have him a wonderful life and that's all that matters to him. My thoughts are with you.
Lynda,
My heart is breaking for you. They are never with us long enough. I lost my sweet girl due to complications after a splenectomy. The kicker, the biopsy was negative for cancer. Your plan speaks of your love for your sweet boy. You are in my thoughts as you enjoy every moment with Groucho Too.
