When I got up this morning, the deck and yard were wet from the first rain since April 1.  I know that because it was raining the day we got Zeppo and it hasn't rained since.  Anyway, he will not go outside.  He just stands on the mat and looks at the wet ground and comes back in.

It reminds me of when my son was little and he also had not seen rain.  One afternoon it started with a little downpour and he ran out and slapped his little hands on the sliding glass door in the dining room and said "Waz dat?"  I told him it was rain and he asked "Where's it coming from?"  I told him the sky and he exclaimed "Oh, I've got to see that" and ran out through the back door and was standing out in the yard looking up into the sky.  That was how he learned about rain.

What a cute memory of your son's rain experience.  My dogs don't seem fazed by rain, but my son's doberman simply hated it.  He hated water in any form, when it came from the sky it added insult to injury!

You must live in Northern CA?  I love the story about your son - very cute.  Oliver was sniffing like crazy this morning investigating the rain.  It's been so long I'm pretty sure he'd forgotten about it.  It always takes some encouragement to go outside when it's raining.  He is NOT a water dog :)

Jackdoodle is just like Zeppo. He will not set foot outside if it's raining. He won't even go out in the yard if it's wet from an earlier rainfall. He feels the same way about swimming and baths, lol. He just doesn't like being wet, period. I chalk it up to his having lived in nice dry AZ as a puppy. :)

That's funny! Sawyer could care less about rain. In fact, he's happy to sit outside in a torrential downpour. He's not fazed by lightening or thunder either. And although he'd prefer not to take baths, he doesn't fight me, even jumping in to our big soaker tub willingly... Oddly, I could never get him to swim. He had to be "taught" to go in the water by his trainer/watcher while he was being boarded! Go figure.

We also had our first rain yesterday. It was Orwell's first rain ever (he was born July 11, so he's a summer baby). He was just visibly confused at first (he saw water droplets on plant leaves and was fascinated), but he ultimately likes it. He likes getting wet while someone waters the plants, so he was just a little bit baffled that it wasn't coming from that.

Lynda ~ I am so glad to hear that you got some rain!  Let's hope it does not stay away too long again.  Cute story about your son!  I can just picture that!

Cute story about your son :) Zeppo and the rain reminds me of my doods' first experiences with snow. It's such a rare occurrence here. They were very tentative about walking on it, but once they got use to it they became obsessed with eating it!

Aww, cute!  Libby hates rain - pretty much refuses to go out if the deck is even wet!  Princess!

Thanks for sharing the story of your son. How sweet
Our guys are like your Zeppo. They love to swim, but hate going out in the rain ;-)
It is a cute memory of your son. brisby refuses to go to the bathroom in the rain. He will hold it until the sun comes out. Lol!

Cute story!

2 of my 3 hate the rain. Bentley & Porsche go to the bathroom in record time. Maserati on the other hand, loves the rain. When he eventually come in, he is drenched.

Poor Zeppo, he just doesn't know all the fun he can have in the rain !

When Finnley was young... her first year, she loved rain.Wanted to just stand outside and snap at it, or just lay down and let it roll off from her. Thank goodness she has smartened up now that she is two !!
I hope you continue to get the rain, lord know you NEED it. I also hope Zeppo comes to terms with it, and learns to embrace the refreshing feeling, when he goes out to pee !
