I was talking to my son 14 year old son today.  He is registering for high school and wants to take Italian.

I said, "I wonder how you count in Italian.  I know how to count in French, Japanese, and Greek but not Italian."

Without missing a beat he replies, "Me neither, but I can count in Roman...i,   i-i,    i-i-i,   i-v,    v,    v-i...." He totally cracks me up.  I don't know where he comes up with this.

How many languages can you count in?

Wow, who taught you to speak/count Bangla?  That's cool.

I took a mini-course before I went to Bangladesh a few years ago.

I can count in Czech, Slovak, German, English, and Russian. We had to study Russian for years until the fall of the communism. I've never talked with a real Russian, so all those years were just a huge waste. Thankfully, my parents signed me up for English as soon as it was possible.

Does pig Latin count?  If so I can do English, French, Spanish (only to five, but I know my manners and how to order a beer) and pig Latin!  I think Spanish is by far the most useful language for travellers.

Unfortunately I am horrible in foreign languages.  I only passed High school spanish I  because my father gave the teacher his first job in the US.  He was a Cuban Jew came over in the 50's.

His favorite joke:

Mouse mother with children spot a cat -

Mouse barks loudly at cat.  Cat runs away.

Mouse says to children - "You see how valuable a second language is"

LOL! I will have to tell my students this one.

A little clarification - everyday during my study this teacher spent 20-30 minutes tutoring me.  Without that help I don't think I could have passed.  I only got a "C".

Mostly what I remember about Spanish is that it was right after swimming (long hair, Montana, winter) and for the whole class there was icy water running down my back.  LOL
