Sadly, Natural Balance has been sold to Del Monte, effective this month, and as former customers rush to find other foods for their pets, sales are already down. These treats should be unaffected, so grab 'em before the merger goes through and the ingredients start coming from China. Apparently, N.B. is doing what they can to generate customers.

The dog treats are L.I.D., from the Limited Ingredient line. However, the ingredients are not the same as those in the corresponding L.I.D. kibble, so if your dog is on an LID diet for digestive issues, be careful.

I was just wondering about the Del Monte merger when I saw this post too. Before I saw your comment my initial thought was exactly in line with you saying "Apparently, N.B. is doing what they can to generate customers."

At least we know these treats should be safe since the sale just went through so these are already made/packaged products.

Yes, these treats should be fine.

I have fed Natural Balance to Bexter his whole life, and now have Maggie on it.  I am not on DK that much, although now that it is summer (I am a teacher), I am starting to be on more.  Is there a discussion about this change of ownership with NB?  Is it no longer a DK recommended food?  Great.  Now, I'm going to have to worry about something that I've come to take for granted apparently.

I have looked everywhere for that post and can't find it. I'm usually great about finding things but searching for posts on DK continues to be an epic fail for me. Sorry! I'm sure someone else can link it.

It's been posted and discussed in TFG and I thought someone had posted it here in the main forum.

The problem is that Del Monte, like all large multinational corporations, outsources their ingredients from China through third party food brokers.

It's really a problem for those of us whose dogs have GI diseases and require an LID formula and/or novel protein. If you're not feeding one the NB LID formulas, there are lots of other options. And even if you are, we can help you find an alternative.

There must have been another one because this one only had a few comments. The other one got into more of a discussion but the content of the article was the same. I thought it was in the main forum too and couldn't find it anywhere.

I think I read in that discussion that they discussed it in the comments on the Food Group, so maybe it was not in an actual discussion, but just on the front page of the Food Group in the comment's section. The problem with the DK search is it does not put discussions in date order and they are so mixed up you have to look through too many to try and find the one you want.

Yes, we had a discussion in the Comments section of TFG too. That's the problem with Comments in a group rather than a discussion, you can't find it later, lol.

Sorry, that was me. I don't always know what is going to generate discussion, and what is just a comment!

No problem, Julie.
