Yes, we've talked about this a lot in the Food Group. We have lots of dogs who love fruits. Melon, berries, apples & bananas seem to be the favorites. They make good low cal treats, too.
Haley LOVES fruit and berries. He gets piece of my daily banana and a piece of any fruit I eat with the exception of those that are harmful for dogs.
I never remember which ones a dog can have so I avoid giving him any! He's a carnivore (and cheese) guy anyway.
JD won't eat fruit, either.
But you can give a dog any fruit except raisins and grapes. Guatemalan avocados are toxic to dogs, so unless you're sure of where it comes from, it's best to avoid avocados, too. Those are the only restrictions.
Oscar will eat anything. Period. LOL! He does love fruit... and veggies. And meat. And fish. And paper. And tile. And... well, you get the idea!
Alma can be anywhere in the house but the moment I open a banana she is right by my side. I make a point to sit somewhere besides the kitchen table to share it with her. I don't want her to beg at the table. If the banana isn't quite ripe she will decline and walk away! She also loves blueberries.
My girls love fruit and vegetables, when we come in from the garden it is difficult to keep them away while we clean them, they know they will get some.
I don't have much experience with Doodles yet but our recently departed chocolate lab Coco loved veggies. Chari likes to talk about the eggplant she grew from seed and nurtured till it was almost ready to pick. Then Coco gobbled it down. There was a mulberry tree in her back yard. There were no mulberries hanging from that tree below about 4' as Coco continually stripped that tree of its berries. She also had an apple tree. When he was in the back yard and an apple fell, he'd run over, pick up a fallen apple, and gobble it down. It didn't matter that it wasn't the apple that just fell.
This is the dog that was also allergic to every kind of dog food known to man. So he lived in canned tuna fish (from the canned meat section of the super market) and sweet potatoes. You should have seen the l;ooh on the checkout clerk's face when we checked out with about 40 pounds of sweet potatoes. "What are you going to do with those sweet potatoes?" "We're going to feed them to our dog..." Incredulous look!!!
We've only had Belle for a week. But she thoroughly enjoyed left over green beans and corn succotash on top of her dog food. A kindred spirit?
Libby loves fruits, but a little picky as to which ones! I like to put them on her kibble for an added treat!
