I finally am getting my first piece of brand new furniture. It is a sofa. I had to get rid of all the fabric in my house because upon pulling up my carpet we found huge holes in the foundation.. Long story short to prevent mold or damage most of my fabric stuff had to go... Who cares I have beautiful safe floors in now.

I was blessed with a gift of a new sofa... It will be the only furniture I have in my living room for a while but it is nice.and I WANT to keep it nice. I need to know what you all use to cover your sofa's with, mine is fake leather and fabric.... the fake leather is on the arms of the sofa and on the very top and back of the sofa. Jack Loves to lay on the arms of the sofa.

Molly does too and she is much rougher on furniture then Jack. I need something that will stay in place when I sit on it that also has a longer arm cover so it doesn't flop off.

any suggestions??  I will take pictures of my house before and after once I am settled.

I am currently using a set of dark flannel sheets that I already had.  the fitted sheet goes over the love seat nicely and the elastic keeps it (mostly) in place.  they are easy to wash.

I like that idea!

I like the fitted concept because the top part of the sofa is the fake leather and Jack and Moly like to climb on top of the pillows to sit on the top because they like to look out the window this way it would be covered...

Real leather scratches a lot more easily then this but this does scratch.. of course this is Jack's home too and I am not about to not let him on the furniture...  I just need a happy middle ground.

I do understand about wanting to have your brand new furniture look great and not be covered. When we have friends over we take off the covers so the family room looks nice. Then if we are pretty close with them we end up putting the covers back on. We have laughed about that we judge the closeness of our friends by how quickly we put the covers back on! :)

Try Surefit. com. I have tow of their microfiber covers and they work well and are not to expensive. I do have to put them back in place now and then, but the dogs are not the problem--when my son is home and drapes himself across the couch, they slide around.

I saw the Surefit, my mom found it and was going to get it for me for Christmas. I loved it but the reviews for the ones I liked were one star only and that was because it didn't stay in place, I don't care about the fabric as much as the scratches.......

I am glad you are happy with Sure Fit though that is good to know for the future.  Thank you for your input

I had to laugh when I read this post Jennifer.  I just bought a new couch and 2 new chairs for our new house.  I took me half a dozen trips to the furniture store and countless hours online to finally decide on the right couch.  We won't have them until we move into the house at the end of December but i've already struggled with what to do with them.  Do I protect them with blankets or let them go natural since I actually want to be able to see them?  I paid extra for the fabric protection and they will come out and clean anything off your couch so i'm wondering if I should just let it go and see what happens.  I was starting to think that I was crazy to be so worried about it, so i'm glad to know that i'm not the only crazy one out there  :)

My son and his girlfriend have a beautiful white leather sofa and three huskies that are allowed on the furniture.  They have the sure grip cover from Orvis and absolutely love it.  It really does stay on and it looks very nice.

It looks very good to me...just not in my budget........thanks....

I got this pet cover from JCP pretty cheaply for our sofa. It does not stay put (the top keeps falling down) and since we are in dry Colorado, there is a lot of static when Monty moves around. But it serves the purpose.

Our sofa is from some kind of a microfiber material, easy to clean. There are no scratches, but even with the cover, there is a spot at the arm rest where Monty lays his soaking mouth.

You could always just go to a fabric store and buy a few yards of a fabric you like and then just place it over your new sofa.

That's a good idea!!!!!!

We go the 2 blanket route... We remove the seat cushions and drape 1 over the back and arms of the furniture.  The cushions are put back on furniture and the second blanket gets tucked around the cushions (FYI, fitted sheet works great to wrap around cushions too).  This method seems to need less re-tucking and definitely keeps dust and dirt from embedding itself in the sofa under the cushions.
