someone told me to feed Bella yogurt and that would help with the enzymes in her saliva and help keep her beard white....any thoughts on this.  Bella does like yogurt and I think it may help a little.

Never heard that but my female was eating a lot of yogurt (which I introduced slowly!) when she was feeding her pups and I didn't notice any difference. I use a whitening shampoo on a LD I groom that is similar in color to your doodle and I use a gentle scrub brush on his face when I have the shampoo on it. It does get pretty clean!

Remember that the natural color of your dog's facial hair may be apricot. My female has apricot hairs between her toes and in other places, which always makes her look dirtier than she is.

Thanks for the information...Bella does not have a lot of apricot in her but I will take that into consideration.
Try fruit citrus flavored tums- you need to balance the pH.  Other flavors do not work.  You may need an antibiotic to treat it as well. Especially if it is the red yest
Interesting about the Tums.  I have always feed my dogs Tums if there is a tummy upset.  The only dog that WILL NOT eat them is my white doodle.  Go figure.
I will give this a try and let you know if it works....Thanks!
Antibiotics work on bacteria not fungi. I would recommend against using any antifungal agents for this, or anything else other than a topical shampoo or something. This is cosmetic not a health hazard.
there are many great products out there that contain Oregon Grape Root which works well so im told. I wouldnt use an antiobiotic product (such as Angel Eyes) though that is supposed to work well

actually an over growth of red yeast is not cosmetic! it can lead to other skin issues and STINKS

talk to your vet to see if you need a medication

The yeast is found often in dogs and when confined, as described here to the beard, it is a cosmetic problem or an odiferous one too. If there is a dermatitiis, folliculitis or otitis, naturally it needs treatment. Keeping beards short and using topical treatments is an easy and safe way to keep this under control. Systemic antibiotics and antifungals have many side effects and should be used only when needed.
