I'm so happy that Milo the Doodle is sleeping through the night  (he's 15 weeks), but would love it if he could sleep a bit past 5:30 am! Once he's up, he's up. Going back in the crate doesn't seem to work once he's up. Any ideas?

Bruin did the same thing.  It takes time... Bruin is 1 yr old and sleeps til 715 or so.

Same thing for our puppy! He's 9 months and sleeps until 7:15 -- sometimes a little later if we let him on the bed in the morning :)

I always brought Jack back in bed with me after he got out of the crate. At the time. I really needed my sleep.

It does get better!  As a grown adult, Rosco, who also would wake up really early, now sleeps in till 9am if I need him to.  I don't remember how long it took him to do that, but probably not at such a young age.  I'm sure past 6 months it was better because around 6 or 7 months I  moved his crate to the living room.

What happens if you put him back in his crate?  can you ignore him if you wore ear plugs?

Asta was 14 weeks when I brought him home and would sleep until 6:30.  From the first day he has slept in the bed with me. Since I'm  retired and don't normally get up that early, I  also started a routine.  We go out at 6:30, but come back in and I go back to bed. My bedroom has been puppy  proofed. So with some of his toys and chewy things, he's free to play.  I usually get up around 9.  Now at 17 weeks, he associates my bedroom with quiet time and will amuse himself while I nap. Hang in there.   It does get better.   You just need to find a routine that works for both of you.

My Shelby was the same way.... I just had to deal with it until she got a bit older.... And she learned to enjoy sleeping in. :)
First, he is sooooo cute!!!!! Ace sleeps until we get up which durin the week is 6:45 and on the weekend 7 or 8 am. He'll go potty outside upon waking up and when he comes back he'll find a spot on the floor and go back to sleep for hours. I think our routine trained him to do this. We did not let Ace dictate our routine, we dictated our routine to him. Ignoring the crying in the crate can be hard, but you have to be firm. Now, Ace does not whine or bark in the AM, he just waits.
p.s. Ace is 18 wks old.

what time do you put him in his crate for the night?

Ace's day winds down at 7-7:30. By 8:00-8:30, he is asleep. I let him sleep outside of his crate until my husband gets home at 9:30. My husband will take him out to pee and then puts him in his crate for the rest of the night. So esentially, he is asleep no later than 8:30pm. That is because that's the time I need to be asleep because I have to be up for work at 3:45am.

Darby has been home for a week.  We crated her for the first few nights and she did OK.  We accidentally fell asleep with her on our bed after taking her out before sunrise...she slept until after 8:00.  I think this will at least be our Saturday routine so that we can sleep in a little :)

Milo is adorable!!

Thanks everyone. We'll continue to be patient! And maybe a little tired :)

Hard to resist this face.
