Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

What are the differences between Goldendoodles and Labradoodles? Preference? Size? Shedding? Coat colors?

So far I have only been searching for Goldendoodle puppies, but perhaps I should be looking at both?

Any info that Doodle parents can share would be great!

OMD...here we go again! We already covered in a previous discussion that Labradoodles have owners that are beautiful, humble, and all around great. Oh, and most Labradoodle owners do not shed. LOL
I was with you right up until the shedding part.  I, unfortunately, am shedding and I didn't have much hair to begin with!  I'm hoping the "bald is beautiful" trend continues!!!
Deanna, Labradoodle owners never admit to any faults :)
Deanna, I hear they make a really good shampoo for shedding. Oh, sorry, that's for the dogs. Too bad, I bet you will look beautiful bald. :)
ALDs all the way! no shedding, the sweetest termperament, you can get them a bit smaller in size, and ridiculously adorable, with teddy bear looks. Although, they are expensive and have a complicated breeding history.

Thanks Sherri! Do they have bigger ones or only smaller? I tend to like bigger dogs...

What do you mean by complicated breeding history? :-)

They come mini, medium and standard.  The ALDs have more in their pedigrees that just Lab and Poodle, there are others in the mix.  ALDs are generations of ALDs to ALDs.  I've never heard of a single one shedding.

The original breeders in Australia bred spaniel into the mix. Then they are bred through many generations. The intent is to create a new breed. The breeders of Australian labradoodles should belong to the international australian labradoodle association.

There have been reports that the original breeders in australia (Rutland Manor and Tegan Park) have falsified records and such. I don't know the whole history, but apparantly there is very little lab in the australian labradoodle. Apparantly they are closer to cockapoos. That's what I've heard, I have no idea what's true or not. A simple google search will tell you, or you can join the group on this site for ALDs and ask there. I'm not really interested, I don't care about the history as I feel 100% confident that I got the right dog for me. She is lovely in all possible ways.

And yes, you can get them in standard size, medium and mini.

Sherri, I haven't done any research on ALD's, but after reading this and my current foster being a ALD I can see the spaniel in her.  Now my curiousity is peaked and I will have to do some research.  Now if I just had time to do it, lol.

I guess you can tell none of us is at all prejudiced about which dog to get since we are all so madly in love with the breed we have chosen! Haha. Good luck in your quest.
