Groucho Too has always been our good dog, but today he "took a walk on the wild side". My husband said he was going out to the shop to do a little latheing and would have lunch a little later. I put out his lunch (chicken and dumplings on two Grand biscuits) and a smaller portion for me to be microwaved a little later. Then I sat down to read a new book on my iPad. I have just learned how to download a book on the iPad and I guess I got a little involved. When I got up to get the lunch plates to warm in the microwave, the larger one was all gone. My first thought was that my husband came in to get his lunch and didn't want to bother me, but why was the plate still sitting on the counter?
Well, Groucho Too is 30 inches tall and very capable of counter surfing, but he is usually too well mannered to put his feet up on the counter. HOWEVER, chicken and dumplings was just too enticing. So, my husband had my lunch and I had a cheese sandwich.

Some things are just too good for even a good dog to resist. Our Murphy learned very young not to go on the counters or table, but one day about a year ago I left a raw meatloaf on the stove, waiting for the oven to preheat and went to my computer, (probably on DK) and I came back to an empty loaf pan and a very guilty looking doodle.
He was fine, but DH didn't get dinner until late. Since then I don't assume and don't leave food out. I think it was just too tempting and I don't want to start any habits.
I had used the trick of putting empty cookie sheets along the counter and when he went to look around he knocked them over and it scared him. That worked really well, until the meatloaf incident.
Groucho Too I think you are getting a bad rap. It was probably Harpo. You and I are so well behaved we would never do that.
The other night Mom was making dinner and I was being my regular good self and my brother's 4 month old Weimeraner maniac stood up and snatched a piece of chicken when Mom turned her back. Mom didn't even know she could reach that high. But I barked and told her. Devil dog had to go to her crate.
Your pal,
Murphy
