Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
He started throwing up Sunday afternoon, two large items that looked like compacted lawn mower droppings, each the size of half a banana. He at dinner. At 2:00 AM he threw up all of his kibble and some clear liquid. Around 3:00 AM more, this time only clear liquid. At 4:45 AM again but this time white tinged with pink. No interest in home cooked chicken and rice for breakfast. At 9:30 AM he threw up bloody mucus, about a hand size pile. Off to the vet's we went. They did Xrays and blood work. The blood work was ok; the Xrays showed something besides all the gas. While were waiting for the results Haley threw up more bloody mucus in the waiting room. He vet came out and saw it and took him to the back. She then went over the results with me and wanted to keep him to do barium (?) and I am to call her later this afternoon.
I am just sick over this and feel so sorry for my poor doodle. This is the first time he has ever refused food or thrown up bloody stuff. He really feels bad.
UPDATE
Well, after a day at the vet, barium paste, many X-rays tracking the progress of the stuff and an anti nausea shot Haley came home tonight with instructions to feed him a little chicken and rice. I gave him two small spoonfuls but he has only eaten about half of it. We go back to the vet to do more x-ray(s) to see if it is still moving through him.
I want to thank everyone of you for your support and positive thoughts. I'll update again tomorrow.
UPDATE
Took Haley to the vet this morning for more x-rays. The stuff has moved from his stomach and is on the way out. This is what she was looking for. Apparently what caused the bleeding was ulceration from some scratchy items in the stuff he had eaten. She said that he should be fine but to keep him on a diet of chicken and rice for a couple of days.
Again, thank you for your concern and support. It really helps me to get through these difficult incidents.
FINAL UPDATE (I hope)
Haley is back to normal. I am watching him like a hawk when outside to make sure he doesn't get into this stuff again. DH has instructions that when Haley isn't fetching ball with him he has to come back inside. DH gets sidetracked doing things and doesn't keep an eye on Haley.
And for all who may be interested, I never found anything in the poo, I only found it in the vomit which I washed off and showed the vet.
Anyway, it's great to have my doodle back to his normal happy self!

I hope Haley feels better quickly....
Can they say what it is? Whatever that might be, hope it moves out quickly. Hope you and Haley get some rest tonight.
I hope Haley and you get some rest tonight!
Anne, I'm so sorry to hear this. I went through this with Jack. My vet also did the barium Xrays this way, and unfortunately, I found out too late that they need to be done with a "rolling" Xray, which tracks the movement of the barium through the GI tract continuously rather than doing it like this with a series of still pictures over two days. I was hoping when I read your OP that they were using the rolling Xray on Haley. The films from my vet also showed nothing much, and we did the same thing with the small amounts of chicken and rice, anti-nauseants, etc.. The vomiting stopped but inside, he really wasn;t any better. Turned out, when we finally got to the internal medicine specialist with the right equipment, it was a whole other ball game, and the GP vets' films were largely a waste of money and time. I don't mean to add to your worries, and I sure hope he just gets better, but if you can't get an answer tomorrow, I'd take him to an internist. I hope you both have a good evening and Haley starts to feel better. Hugs to you.
I didn't know the name for it, but I just looked it up, and yes, it's fluoroscopy.
After JD was scoped and the pyloric stenosis was discovered, I asked why it hadn't shown up on the barium Xrays, and I think the internist said that if they'd done the fluoroscopy rather than the periodic films, it would have.
Sorry to read Haley isn't well.. Hope he starts to feel better soon.
Crossing my fingers and toes for your handsome dood...hope he feels better soon!
