A "Heartdog" is that one dog that lives in your heart forever.  It can be any breed, any time in your life, but everyone knows who that dog is.  I know who many "heartdogs" are for many of my friends and acquaintances, but if you have had (or currently have) a "heartdog" you know it!  So, my question is:  Is your "heartdog" a doodle?  They are definitely special dogs and my first doodle was my heartdog.  No other dog will live up to him, even though they may try.  He was something special to be sure.  Here is a photo of Hondo tide pooling at Carmel Beach.  He died on 09-18-10.

Please share favorite photos of your heartdogs.

Lynda, What made Hondo your heart dog? I am just curious because I have heard you say this before.  How old was he when you lost him? Loved the photo!

I would have to say Fudge and Vern are my heart dogs. I don't think it is because they are necessarily Doodles, but they were the dogs I wanted and chose just for me. They are certainly not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but the joy they have brought to my life has made it so much better :)

Hondo was my heartdog because he was always by me, in sickness and health.  If I was feeling poorly, he carefully crawled into bed and laid next to me (sometimes for a long period of time when I took certain medicines).  Then when he was feeling poorly, he crawled next to me and wanted my comfort.  Otherwise, he never got on the bed unless invited.  Once I fell on my bike and he stayed next to me until I was ready to get up.  He was just always there no matter what.  Never questioning, and always there for me.

Hondo unfortunately had liver disease and two surgeries.  On the second, the vet said his liver was gone (shriveled and grey) and he would need to be on meds and special diet the rest of his life.  He had already been on human liver meds for almost two years, and I said that was fine with me.  Little did I know the rest of his life was only one day.  He was 7 1/2 years when he passed away.  I will never forget that dog.  He was, by the way, my first doodle.

Thank you for sharing that, Lynda! Hondo sounds like he was an amazing dog and I can see why he was your heart dog. I am so sorry you lost him at such a relatively young age and so quickly.

Lynda, it sounds like the two of you had a very special bond.  I never heard the term "heart dog" but I like it.

Oh Lynda,  What a beautiful heartdog Hondo was....I'm sorry he couldn't have stayed with you for a longer time.     Banjo is and will always be my heartdog.   He's the dog I've wanted all my life - each day with him is a better day.

All of Banjo's pictures make me smile!

:-)

Banjo has won all of our hearts.

Awwww, pure bliss! I love this picture!

Banjo is GREAT!  I love this happy photo!

This pic makes me smile each and every time!
