A "Heartdog" is that one dog that lives in your heart forever.  It can be any breed, any time in your life, but everyone knows who that dog is.  I know who many "heartdogs" are for many of my friends and acquaintances, but if you have had (or currently have) a "heartdog" you know it!  So, my question is:  Is your "heartdog" a doodle?  They are definitely special dogs and my first doodle was my heartdog.  No other dog will live up to him, even though they may try.  He was something special to be sure.  Here is a photo of Hondo tide pooling at Carmel Beach.  He died on 09-18-10.

All of my dogs are my dogs of my heart.  Beginning at 7 years old with Auto, a springer spaniel, the Chan, a german short-haired pointer, Ivan, a Siberian/German Shepherd mix, was my first dog after I was married, then Ivan, a Siberian, Sunny, a golden, Storm, a Siberian, Thor, a Siberian and now Roo and TIgger, our doodles.  I could not pick one over the other any more than I could one of children.  Each was a wonderful, unique, loving part of my (our) lives.  Each of them bring great memories and a lump in my throat and tears if I would let them.

I had three horses each of whom was my heart horse for the same reasons.

It is said that if you have had the love of two good horses, four good dogs, and one good man you are blessed.  I have been blessed, and then some.

Lynda ~ thank you for starting this discussion.  It is a joy to read all the posts.

Lynda--I've 'grown up' here on DK knowing Hondo.  It's a treat to see his picture, and his story.  He was a magical dog, who will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Trav is my heartdog.  That might seem like a no-brainer, as he's the only dog I've had, but we are truly bonded.  We've been together pretty much 24/7 since he was 8 weeks old.  He's a momma's boy, and even when he's off-leash, playing with other dogs, he keeps track of where I am.  We were at the beach for a couple of days, and he loves to go greet the other dogs.  He checks with me first to see if it's okay to go and greet, parties with the dog for about 10 seconds, then heads back to me at top speed.  It's so cute!  He's smart, funny, sensitive, playful...a dear friend and companion.

I can just see the light bulb went on in his brain - "Whoa, now where is my mama!"  I love this.
