If any of our more wise doodle experts who are not members of Puppy Madness Group - would please go sign up so that you can respond to P.M group postings.  I'm not the right person to really help in this situation but we have 2 members talking about giving their puppies up.  Go to the Help I'm Getting Discouraged message and read through - you'll see we actually have 2 people talking about giving their puppies up.  Arrrrrrghhhh!  I've left a pretty stern message myself :(   but these owners need help and fast!!!!  One owner might be just venting - the other owner sounds pretty serious about giving up the dog "before we get too attached."  Barf.  We don't want to see their beautiful doodles given up - unless in the end that is the best option for the dog.  Please help!

Every single day, I approve people's requests to join the DRC website. At least half of them, I wish I could call and have a serious chat. Even these people who are looking to adopt adult rehomes and rescues (and let's face it, many of them are looking to adopt because they can't pay the breeder's asking prices) have unrealistic expectations. One after another: "We have researched the "breed" and we know this is the perfect dog for our family. We love that they are non-shedding, (we must have an allergy-friendly dog as our son has allergies) easy to train, great with kids, the perfect size..." "We have waited to get a dog until our son was old enough to be responsible for it." (Really? A 7 year old will be responsible for a dog?) Many of these people are looking for service dogs for very specific tasks: "My daughter has Nameofraredisease and needs a dog to Tendtoherneeds". Others are very specific: "I would like a young female F1B English Goldendoodle" (English, yet. F1B, yet. Would you like fries with your order?) Amy and Nancy will attest to this.

Where on earth do they think these perfect dogs are coming from, and why are they homeless in the first place? Where are they doing their "research"? Breeder's websites?

It really is very frustrating. Especially when you are going broke and worrying yourself to death over the truly perfect doodle who lives with you.

PS: If I had a dollar for every person who told me I should have Jackdoodle put to sleep because of his medical expenses, I could use it to pay for his next bottle of pills.

LOL Karen,  not such a bad idea to charge everyone a dollar for being a heartless dope.

I'm not laughing at you, but I'm laughing. Only because I can relate. Certainly, at the time I was not laughing but walking aroundy house yelling at the phone call I just had with an applicant. WT..... I've only done about 300 applications for doodles. You have done 100,000+
But I can agree with you on the totally unrealistic expectations people have for dogs.
I've had a few that want me to train the dog, reserve it for them, call them back when I'm done. Oh, and don't call until after the 1st because we will be in Floiida. Oh, and no black dogs because my carpet is navy blue.....
Oh, and my daughter is in a wheel chair, but she will be taking the dog out to potty, but we don't have a fence- chase that in a wheel chair.
What do you mean I have to train the dog? Doesn't your rescue fix them all up for me? It does not end!
No, it's not funny, but a good book can be written about interviews alone!

LOL, Joanne. Remember the lady who wanted the DRC to hold a six-month old red female doodle puppy (we had 50+ apps for her) for 3 months in the foster home because she was going on her "dream vacation" ?

No, so sorry I missed that.... Not.

I have seen some of the brief DRC profiles, I can only imagine what you see when you are reading applications were people have the room to expound on their wants and desires for the perfect dog.

Joanne, please tell me that you were making up that comment about no black dog because they have navy carpet.

No, I did not make that up.  It is true.

Hummm if I had Navy carpet I'd rather have black than blonde in the event they shed ... black wouldn't show!  :o)

They considered the dog a trip hazard and they would have to change the carpet according to the color of the dog. No, they were not elderly.
