Still snowing here in Omaha Nebraska. Finally. I do love 4 seasons. I don't think I would like to live in 'HotLanta! LOL
That's right, April! I did finally put on a scarf around my neck to go to work the other day...but only because the wind was bad - 30 to 40 mph with the temp below 20. If it is 20 and not windy...I don't need a coat or gloves if I am traveling to or from work. My co-workers are all bundled up...ear muffs, wool or down, gloves and boats. I moved from Northern Minnesota...close to International Falls which usually has the coldest temp in the contiguous 48 to Omaha...it is all relative!
- 10 celcius here in Toronto...converts to 14 Farenheit. Cold winter this year but the doodle loves it!!
I do feel sorry for those of you who must go through the extreme cold and snow all winter in the north. I am in Huntsville, AL and we are now getting a rare snow fall with may accumulate to 8 inches. Which is not much in some areas. We will probably we stuck at home since the city does not have much in the way of equipment to clear the snow. Our annual average snow fall is about 1 inch. Everyone here seems to overreact to the "s" word when the weatherman mentions it and rushes to the grocery and the shelves are swept clean of bread, milk and produce. We joined the crowds last night to get a few things but were too late for some things.
The falling snow is so beautiful and I do wish we would have more snow than we do. We had a rare white Christmas this year and it was a wonderful sight to wake up to on Christmas morning. It made Christmas more special this year. I hope everyone in the north and south stays warm and safe.
It is suppose to be cold all week (by our standards) and hopefully, it will melt in a few days so we will not be stuck at home too long.
I have to chuckle when I hear about a city not having enough snow removal equipment! I can't imagine getting to stay home for a snow day (at least not since those cherished snow days in school). Cold and snow in MI means shovel out of the drive and leave for work an hour earlier.
I do hope all our southern friends stay warm and safe - driving in the snow/ice does take some practice.
It is just not fiscally feasible for Deep South cities to maintain a fleet of snow removal equipment to be able to handle the “20 year snow storm”. So we go through our snow day rituals and as Julie mentions wipe out the grocery stores (milk, bread, chili, beer ;). As of 8:00 AM, Atlanta has 5” of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. Harlow is loving the snow and I have had the chance to experience the doodle coat snowballs everyone up North has talked about. I have to charge my video camera and then take some movies of her playing in the snow.
BTW, watching The Weather Channel, it looks like the Northeast is getting ready to be pummeled by this storm. Though you guys are use to it, we are sending wishes that our Northern DK friends keep power, stay warm and safe.
