Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have just both started back to work recently and DH is gone about 10.5 hours and I'm gone about 12. It's usually only one or two days a week that we work on the same day so otherwise they are let out whenever they ask.

We have someone come by around half way through the day when we're both working,so the longest we have had them hold it is about 6-7 hours. One day our sitter forgot and they didn't go out for about 12 hours. No accidents. We both felt so bad.

They are 2 1/2 and 1 year old, 66 and 59 pounds. Does age, size or bladder training make the difference and what is really comfortable and reasonable to expect? Anyone have their doodle go that long between potty breaks?

I know I will probably stand alone in this, but I never expect my doodle to hold it longer than me or my DH can.  I think 7 hrs is the most Gunner has ever had to hold it.  We have a dog walker that comes mid-day through the week.  I just can't justify expecting him to hold it 10-12 hrs, I know I can't.
I would never leave my two that long.
I never thought of comparing it to our bladders. Interesting. It seems 7 hours is about average so far.

I think that 6-7 hours is perfectly reasonable. Although I'm sure every dog is different. Darwin has held it for up to 12 hours but that wasn't a regular circumstance at all, and I felt awful.

On our schedule, he goes 6 or 7 hours during the day without potty.

I'm curious to know how long other dogs go between breaks, especially young ones, so thanks for starting this thread. Molly is only six months old, so I know she's still young, but she needs to go outside at least every two-three hours during the day. At night though (on our bed), she's fine to hold it eight hours.  Go figure.

But every dog is so different. Our golden retriever used to hold her bladder forever. She'd often go from 7 at night until 9 in the morning, and it wasn't because we didn't try or that we were neglectful. We'd try to get her to go out late at night and when we first woke up, but she'd have zero desire. Now, as we're out with Molly for at least six or seven pees a day and four to five poops (sorry for over-sharing--I just can't believe how often she poops!), I can only try to remember what it was like to have a dog that wanted to go out so little. But Molly is so darn cute and sweet that it's worth it! (At least while the weather is nice!)

Molly is still young tho so it may get better. Our Murphy has always gone frequently though and will go as many times a day as we let him out. We have always been home with him so he has been trained to go out often. However, Bella will go out with him and maybe half those times will have to go potty.
I am so happy someone posed this question as we have had constant struggles with Phoebe about pottying.  She has always struggled with peeing even as a pup.  Within the last two weeks, she has decided to not pee in the morning (don't know how she does it).  I have been so worried but our vet has assured us that there is nothing wrong with her and that maybe it is a phase.  I am home--well, in and out--the entire day so she has plenty of opportunities to tell me she needs to go out but she does not want to.  When I walk her mid-day, sometimes we walk for over a half hour before she goes.  Talk about a bladder of steel.  I have been supplementing her water intake with ice as she never liked to drink either.  It amazes me how comfortable she is with not going often.
Luca often refuses to go out in the morning. If I go out with hime he'll go out but I have to try to convince him to pee if I need to leave and won't be back too soon.
Makes you wonder how they can hold it 10 hours or more all night and not have to go first thing in the morning. Just curious, how do you "convince" him?
Bella doesn't go first thing in the morning either and won't go at all during walks. She will only go potty in her own yard and will hold it till she gets home no matter where we are. So I know she has a bladder of steel as well as a little OCD!
I would hate to see what would happen if you moved.:)

Truth in Doodling-  Its has happend before to our Goldendoodle.  Of course I wouldnt plan it that way but even sometimes Shelby will play before going!?!  She has tremendous ability to hold her bladder.  Thanks tons Shelby Roo
