How long is your

doodle's hair.  Stuart is now 17 months old and other than a puppy cut on his face and a sanitary - his hair has never been cut.  It is 6 to 8 inches depending on the location, his tummy being 6 and his back and head being 8 inches.  He is so darn cute and people just love his look but he is a shedder, his hair is every place.  Also being in FL and loving to swim - would he feel better if it were shorter.  I'm considering trying it shorter.  Have you cut your doodle's hair, how long was it and how short did you go?

He's gorgeous. I love his long shiny locks.  I have trouble keeping up with the brushing so I automatically have them cut short every few months. Winston is less prone to matting than sophie and much more patient with a brush so his fur can get quite long at times. But I have never let them grow out for longer than 3 or 4 months.

Sherri - Stuart doesn't really matt, once around his tail and some on the ears (where Rooney bites BACK) lol.  His hair dries super fast after a swim where Rooney (the water hater) takes forever but Stuarts hair doesn't brush easily.  Perhaps I'm not using the correct brush.

His hair length is probably close to my Moose.  I'm always hesitant to take him to the groomer, because I don't want him shaved.  We had him shaved with the longest guard once and it took forever to grow out properly.  About every few months I'll take the scissors to him and trim a few inches off the overall length.  The first few days afterward he looks a little choppy, but it quickly blends together.  If you could find someone that would scissor him, you might be okay.

What a handsome boy!  I couldn't cut that hair either!  I don't think short hair cools the dogs off- they don't sweat from their skin so the hair length doesn't matter (at least that's what I've always thought!).  I don't think a haircut would affect the shedding either- he would just shed short hairs instead of long :)

No it wouldn't help with the shedding but might make it easier to clean up.  He sheds a small puppy every day, lol.

This is the longest Darwin has ever been. It was so long that it made him look like a mini doodle, due to width vs height of him.

LOL Lovve your title.. I love Stuart's hair and it's impressive that you've been able to manage the length all this time! Jack is just a few months younger than Stuart and I hadn't had any length taken off his coat until it started getting pretty hot here. It was about 6" long, he's got thick wavy fleece, I was a bit nervous and had them take and inch off. He still looked great and it got even hotter out and we went for another inch off, baby steps! Until finally I got my nerve up and had him cut down to about 2", a puppy cut. He was getting wet in the pool and the wet hair was tangling on his belly, etc., so the haircut worked out so much better for him. And he still looked great! Now that it's getting cooler I plan to let it grow in again for the winter, but next summer I'll be a little braver and take bigger steps instead of baby steps, maybe go right to the 2". He was happy, it looked good and so much easier to manage with him getting wet! Stuart will no doubt look handsome no matter what length you go for!!
