I was all set to go with Healthy Paws pet insurance until I saw that they don't cover the office visit. How much is a typical office visit charge? I'm guessing $100-$150?

Thanks!

I don't seem to recall any that offered coverage for office visits, unless you 'up' the package. The premiums wiggle when adding well visits.   I have seen office visits range from thirty to sixty - but also note that often a vet or clinic does not charge for office if a specific procedure is being done, or it is a follow up.  That fee covers the 'look  see' portion of a pet's appointment - what else it includes can vary. This is going to vary by area, I'm sure.

My last vet never charged for anything other than initial visit for vaccinations, not additional with spay, and so on - same with current one. You can call around your area and make up a check list, ask them what their customary charges are.  Some merely charge more for things to avoid that 'office visit' charge that sets off our alarms.  Others break down every thing.

I got just nutty with all the details of choosing insurance, my ocd really got a workout - but I did choose Healthy Paws, for whatever that's worth.

Around here an office visit is about $60 but that doesn't cover any treatment or vaccinations etc. I just paid $119 for each doodle for an annual exam and bordetella and leptospirosis vaccines.

Holy cow, I want to move where you live. I just paid $900 for two dogs annual exam, heartworm test, lepto and bordatella vaccine and flea & tick meds. The vets where is live are expensive!!!!
Holy cow indeed! My area is quite expensive, near New York City. But I try never to get heart worm tests since I give meds year round. I also do not buy meds at the vet. That amount you paid seems outrageous.
All the vets in my area charge very similar prices :(

Wow.  If my area vets charged thet much I don't know if I could have one dog, let alone three.  My vet charges depending upon what is being done which means often there is no 'office visit fee' at all.

Our vet's office visit is $50, but that doesn't include any tests or vaccines that may be needed. For our 9 week puppy appt, I paid $160 for everything.

Our vet charges around $70 for the office call...everything else is ala carte...we have Healthy Paws.

In our area I've paid from $46-$56 for the office visit alone, not including tests, meds or shots. Often, the first office visit charge is waived for new clients. Of course, emergency hospitals charge more.

I don't think I've ever left the vet for less than $100. Between the exam charge, tests, special exams, vaccinations, etc.... an emergency vet trip was $300 for the exam and an abdominal x-ray.

When I took Beau in for Wellness Exam at 10 weeks, the Exam was $32, then an additional for parasite & ova $18.80; Microscopic Exam $23.50; plus animax ointment = $92.27  Now a regular office exam is $61.00

I have always had Charlie insured under VPI pet, but when we got Beau I decided to research pet insurance again.  Many were recommending Pet Plan so I just went with them because they were rated in the top 4. I missed the fact that there is a $200 deductible per condition per year!  This might be ok if you had a dog with a chronic condition.  Needless to say I am not happy with PetPlan and I just resigned from this insurance.  It appears Healthy Paws is the #1 rated insurance today, but I haven't fully researched it.

I just paid 45$ for heartworm test, lyme test, and two other things spread by ticks.
