How much poop does a doodle owner scoop when a doodle owner scoops for two?   All the talk about what it costs for feed our dogs for a month got me to thinking - how much poop am I picking up in a month.  It has seen a sharp rise in quantity since getting Stuart whose growth is in tandum with his increasingly larger poops.  Soooooo tomorrow I have decided that I am going to weigh the poo bags at the end of the evening to see just what is what.  It is obvious that I don't have enough to do but think about it, I'll be able to figure out how much poop that is a week, month and a year!  Very useful info don't ya think?  LOL

*******************************THE WEIGH IN******************************

I counted poops and weight over a two day time period to get an average.  Rooney poos 2/3 times a day - Stuart 3/4 times so on average I'll be picking up 2,190 bags of poop per year.  This has to be good exercise right?

The weight was .5 lbs per day (although this will go up as Stuart grows) so at the weight it will be 182.5 lbs in a year.

So that is the stinky end of my quest to find out how much poop does a doole owner scoop.

LOL . . I have two doodles, Sasha is 45+ lbs and Oliver is 75+.  I know I pick up tons of poop exact how much it weights I really never thought about it.  It will be very interesting to see your numbers :)
If you can find a market for dog poop, you might be on to something.
My DH scoops the poop....I think I'll ask him to weigh it for me.  I'm sure he won't mind, right?
Jane - I'm starting to worry about you... SERIOUSLY though, it would be interesting.  Maybe we could all truly compare input & output (compare how much our dogs are eating to what they're pooping out)...That could help us rate our foods too.  Interesting idea!  ALL POOP SCOOPERS UNITE...maybe we could all bag the stuff & sell it as fertilizer.  Doodle Poop (DOOP)!  We could actually test it out on our gardens first.  You are definitely on to something here!  Actually, I'm proud of you Jane - you went from germophobic to willingly measuring poop - the transformation is remarkable.  Look what Stuart has done to you!  Are you going to get your paper plates & gloves out again to collect???

LOL :-) Traci, you're right I'd love to see a picture of Jane in the "collection" process,  I know this was a BIG concern of mine before we got a second doodle. Luckily our poops are only from 30lb dogs...not 60-70!

Our poop is collected and deposited in a separate covered 5gal pail outside with a plastic bag liner, it's emptied weekly...I still don't think I want to weigh it :-(

Doop - I like it!!!  Yes - I'm glad that someone is worried - I worry about me too - lol!!!  This all becomes a thought because of where we live, there is no off leash pooping till that electric fence is installed this Friday.  Unless they decide to poo at the dog park which we haven't been going to as it is too hot.  Picking up dog poop is a big part of how I spend my days - I keep thinking that I should be thinner what with all the bending and stooping that goes into the poop retrieval process.  No - I will not be weighing the poop in the raw.  I will weigh the poop in the bag as they really don't weigh much and for sanitary purposes with my scale.  I would be willing to photo the entire event!  LMAO!

A video would be nice! :)

With 2 dogs there is lots of poop, but with 3 there is TONS of poop. My 2 doodles lay some elephant poop I swear, my Lab mix not so much. lol You are not crazy wanting to weigh it out Jane lol, because I sat down one day and figured out, with 3 dogs, each poop twice a day, that is 6 piles a day, 42 piles a week, about 180 piles a month, and about 2190 a yr, IF, they only poop twice a day...so I guess I don't have enough to do either lol

So, I do poop patrol in the morning and at night every day to cut down on the chances on stepping in it.  Never fool proof though, always miss one somewhere and nonetheless my shoes find it lol

I can't wait to hear the end result of the weigh in ;)

While I only have one doodle for now (but hopefully that will change!), we do scoop a LOT as she is on a prescription food which has increased her output considerably!  I swear we scoop for two.
I'm not in the actual poop scooping stage yet, we are still on the little blue bag stage- grab, yank grass, invert, hose down, done. On another topic, I'd be interested to know what people with older doodles typically use to scoop all the poop? A real pooper scooper?

I'm not even sure what it's called but it a food utensil that is round about 5 inches and it has holes in it to drain liquid.  The handle is quite sturdy and long, I guess for big pots....anyway, Kahlua is 95 lbs and this does really well because it doesn't bend and it's long enough so I don't have to kneel down.  I also use it for our other puppy who is 8lbs and of course, a lot smaller pooper and it works well for him too.

I use a poop bag on my hand, pick up the poop, pull the bag inside out and knot, probably just like you do. And my dog is 6 years old and weighs 80 lbs.
